Does anyone know on a 70 Sportsroof 302w toploader, what side the speedo cable is on ? Driver or passenger side ?

Is it always the same side ?

Thanks,
Frank.

Actually dont worry - I dont need it.

I am converting to an Autometer electronic speedo and thought the old speedo cable plugged into the electronic sender. But the sender plugs straight into the gearbox. No speedo cable.

Thanks anyway.

Cheers,
Frank.

Thats good Frank, cause the next question would have been.... you guessed it, LHD or RHD.

LHD/RHD doesn't matter. Depends on the tailshaft. Besides all 70 sportroofs were LHD...! ;-)

Toploaders go both ways, but "most" early Mustangs were on the right for manuals, left for automatics.

Technically correct I'm sure Mert, but a lot of cars have been converted and in Franks original post he asked if it was passenger or drivers side, hence we would need to know if it were LHD or RHD. Thumbs Up
cheers

Point was the comment "most are on the left" is wrong... so much for trying to educate...

OK , my car is LHD.

I have looked on both sides and can't for the life of me see where the cable goes in. I have gone under the car to feel around for the cable entry point, but there is nothing there. I expect it be aft of the shifter.

When I pulled the speedo cable out of the dash the rest of the cable just came out with it and the other (gearbox) end was just frayed and cut off short. At least that explains why my speedo never worked.

I have googled pics of a toploader and couldn't find anything useful. I have a factory parts manual for a 68 with a toploader and it shows it on the LH side near the back of the box, but I dont have an opening there.

Any pics or info greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Frank.

My top loader is on the right hand side. You can get lefthand side cable entery for top loaders but I think you find most mustangs are on the RHS if not all. The shifter is on the left dosen't leave much room for the cable.
According to Dave keys toploader they are all on the rhd for small block mustangs
www.davidkeetoploaders...singid.htm so if yours is on the left it anit a mustang box.

Yep found it on the right !

Thanks again. I was just able to feel the end of the old cable still bolted in there with my hand through the shifter hole.

Cheers,
Frank.
