Good to get the updates.

I will someday think of something clever to say.

It's about time I posted an update, didn't do any work for a while due to being sick and cold weather.

I've welded in 3 new floorpans during the 38 degree days in January and then kept going with tidying up wiring.

Yesterday morning Nuts helped me put the motor and AOD box in, during the arvo I finally fitted the Hedman Headers that are 'guaranteed to fit a 351w in a 66'. They needed massaging in 2 spots with a sledge hammer even though I'd already dented the shock tower as much as I dared. They are the 88658 elite headers for a 351W into 66, 1 and 5/8". I also had to grind 2 mm out of the LH engine mount hole to get the bolt in.

Today I fitted the BF discs and rotors and did more work on wiring.

More work on wiring today, still trying to sort out the middle plug in the firewall.

Can anyone help me with what wire 3 (red with bluish stripe) does/goes to in the centre plug, I have finally worked out the 8 wires?

Its been brought to my attention that we shouldn't be discussing this practise.
I've removed my post and I would suggest others to do the same.

My apologies, very true. I've deleted my comments and the moderator has been asked to delete the other relevant bits.

It took a fair while reading across 4 wiring diagrams to work the middle plug out on the firewall. These may be a little different in description to original as I have removed the starter solenoid, added a 1 wire alternator and someone previously cut the ammeter out of the circuit. The diagram I have shows the ammeter wires 654 and 655 but Iā€™m not sure which they are in the plug? Iā€™m not intending to connect the ammeter again, just curious.

From top left across (1-4), then bottom left across (5-8), I have

1 Batt +12v - mine is Red, diagram says brown (
2 Oil pressure ā€“ White-red (31)
3 ???
4 Heater Blower ā€“ Brown (913)
5 Batt +12v ā€“ thin Yellow
6 Coil + Red-green (goes to coil, 9v comes from pink resistor wire on ignition switch when ignition is on); Brown wire to I on starter solenoid for 12 Volts when starting (262, 16 and 16a)
7 Water Temp ā€“ Red-white (39)
8 Heater Blower ā€“ Yellow (181)

Thanks Nuts. That's where it goes, but for some reason someone has soldered wire 4 (fan motor) to the yellow cable for the above? I'll have to do some more cable chasing!

There is a 4 wire cable that comes out above the middle 8 prong connector that I was talking about. This is the neutral safety switch and reverse lights. I wired this up to the AOD gearbox and it's all working well. But for some reason the previous owner wired the yellow wire from this 4 wire cable to the brown heater wire in the 8 pin plug (which is disconnected at the fan motor and has a blown fuse as the two wires on the fan motor are rotted at the motor and short together). So still not sure what wire 3 is?

Ah, PO wiring, always interesting. I liked how PO4 connected the radio power not to the existing radio circuit but via the high beam foot switch- noice.

PO wiring? Previous owner?

Ausjacko - I laugh when I remember one of your comments about helping as long as it's not wiring!

Help needed - Choke cable wiring, I chopped the choke wire and now can't find the original. My research says to make sure it has a fused 10 amp wire, where do I pick it up from?
