Embarassed I'm sure this has been asked and answered before so apologies for reposting.

What I know: The original gear is good enough for the road, and anything else has been designed for racing etc...
..but it hasn't stopped many installing them and enjoying hopefully a better ride quality than the original gear.

What I don't know: What is the difference between the RRS and TCP front coil overs?...... what's better value for money, what's easier to install and at the end of the day, is would you really feel the difference between having one installed over the other?

One more: ......I've heard something about the TCP not being Australian compliant?

2 different beasts, TCP is based on the factory type suspension: ie upper & lower control arms. RRS uses a Mcpherson strut setup. Apples & oranges.

Edit: Aus compliant is bullshit anyway. Both need to be engineer approved & both have been approved in Australia.

Thanks Steve!

I understand you went with TCP. What is your personal reason over the RRS setup?
Can you and do you need to notch the towers with TCP?......would I be right to say you have to notch them if using RRS....or it doesn't matter for either setup?

RRS only gives you the "option" to notch the towers as it has the McPherson strut suspension which only uses the lower control arm... no upper arm which bolts to the towers thus allowing the notching. You dont have to do the notching to use the RRS suspension.
TCP still uses the lower and top control arm like the original suspension so the towers can not be notched.

I gather there's no use asking which is better, as I'll just get personal opinions?...but i don't mind personal opinion if its from experience with either product.
......I understand it depends what it will be used for......weekend warrior and hopefully it'll see the track couple times a year.

Personal opinion only, OK?
I have RRS on my car, I have installed and driven TCP products. What is best?????
IMO the best allround front suspension setup for an early Mustang is what they were built with, bang for buck it bloody hard to beat.
But thats just my opinion Bas.

Thanks nassi, personal opinions are fine!
Not fussed about bang for buck as I have a choice of all three now for the front end, yes, that's right, I have the original setup, the RRS and the TCP.
I know I need to consider cost of installation.

On a similar matter, what about rear end setups?
Choice one: five leaf
Choice two: TCP Canted-4-Bar Suspension System
Choice three: Helix triangulated Heavy duty four link kit with shock bolts

Bas if you must buy an after market front end, buy TCP, it loads the car where ford designed it to be loaded. RRS places all the load on the lower arm which it was never designed to carry, albeit they tack plate the bottom of it the stop it bending. Tcp have a shebly drop built in, good luck getting some clown at Bob Jane to set it up though in an Alignment.

For the rear fit original stuff basically but with a sway bar, Koni D shocks, if you want it to hook up, with big power, fit some caltrcks, or try some Shelby bars. You could consider a good Watts link like the TA cars ran. Kerry can make them or you can buy adjusted ones.
My mate had a full body 57 Chev at his shop for some flame work on the front, it had a shock 57 rear end, and caltracks, & a 572 crate motor, boy does it hook up,tit runs 10's

The only problem with the leaf stuff is it gets in the way when plumbing the side exiting pipes.
So what would be a good alternative to the leaf springs?...WATTS link?

OEM = No engineering approval required. It fits, it works, its cheap.

Watts link:


Prevents lateral movement of the housing during cornering.

Since money is no object, then just go with what ever you put in the front..
Dont go a four link unless it has some form of lateral control (ie watts link, panhard or triangulated).

Are really just changing the rear end mate, just to make it easy for the exhaust shop? Shame you don't live in Brisbane then I could take some of your loot as well Bas. Mate you need to forget this shit mate, springs, sway bar, shocks, at the outside a watt's, link, but for a road car you don't need this stuff, you may as well be burning $100 notes in your fire place.
If you want it to hook up, just run shelby bars or caltracs that's all it needs.

What he said.

The exhaust excuse doesnt fly.. look at TCP / RRS what ever else..
The lower link is mounted off the front leaf spring mount.. so I fail to see how that will help exhaust routing in any way.
Except for being thinner width, it goes to the same point and traverses the same arc..

The helix kit.. where does the shock mount to ? that single bolt hanging off the back??

Seriously.. reverse eye leaf springs. decent shocks and traction aids (if you need / want them) anything else is a waste.
