I was wondering if anyone has the dimensions and the gauge of the steel that is used for the export brace reinforcement plate like the one pictured in the link.

www.custommustangs.com...108522.jpg

I was thinking it might be cheaper to just get one bent up out of plate steel at the local metal land, or even just buy the steel and bend it myself if it is not too heavy a gauge.

Thanks to anyone that can help.

From memory it is not all that thick - maybe 16th or 3/32 plate.
You can easily make one.

I will someday think of something clever to say.

It was only found on early Shelby's. Make a paper pattern of the top of the plenum where the export brace bolts on & have a 25mm lip that folds up the plenum.

Copy onto some 1.6mm plate, drill holes & prime. Then just glue it in place with Sika 252. Shelby workers stitch welded them, but totally unnecessary with the advent of adhesives.

Thanks for that guys.

Do you think a left over section of steel from my replacement inner rocker would be thick enough? Seems to possibly be slightly thinner then the original rocker, if not I'll just buy a section.

Roughly how long would that piece be, 250- 300mm? Just so if I buy a piece of steel it is long enough?

300 X 60 X 1.6mm mild steel.

Just trying to work out whether I need to use sika primer or more specifically sika aktivator 205 before I glue this on or not? Have had a look at there website and info but have only managed to confuse myself. The brace and cowl have been painted with intergard so it is not steel on steel.

If you have the primer or activator, then use it. If not just use the Sika 252 as a sealer. Reality you really do not need the plate & by gluing in place will help spread the load.

Yep that was me. Just didn't have any sika so haven't stuck it on yet.

I figured if I had this in a separate thread it doesn't get lost in pages of build thread on the off chance someone is looking for it.
