i think i now know what my problem is with polishing and fine marks .. i think my polishing wheel is causing them cause they are consistant with the wheel .. almost like swirl scratches but in a straight line..
i tested this by angling the metal and i could see the fine scratches now changing direction .. you can only see them at certain angles .. otherwise it looks mirror..
to start with .. alloy plate
so can a polishing/buffing wheel become course or lose its fluffyness?
my final polishing is Purple polish (love the stuff)
to be honest out of all the crap i spent my money on with buffing wheels and compounds and bench grinder etc.. and after alot of practice with what works for me .. i found wet sanding up to 2000 and then keep using the 2000 even after its got no more bite as it appears to help smooth out almost as if you went higher grade .. .. then with the wheel on the drill and purple polish many times and .. instant mirror
You'll be forever maintaining all this polished stuff!
i think the plan is to clear coat it .. and being i have the time i thought id play with it and learn some more on how to do it properly .. i think i get a buzz out of turning plain into mirror .. i know it wont last forever not like i got work! lol
i dont think im going to .. its full of dings and scratches and its under the car and gunna hit all sits of shrapnal .. i still have to take a pic and put it up on the oil pan mod page :D. i was too busy polishing and i forgot today
