I had a look and couldn't see this in the search engine so I thought I'd post it to help others out. There will be more that I have missed, feel free to add them in. Comments on genuine problems with suppliers would probably be useful as well.

There's a Web Links section of the website where anyone should be able to add handy links (to be approved by an admin before they go live for obvious reasons).

You could add "Just Mustangs" in Riddells Creek , VIC too.

Not a big shop, and more into car sales than parts, but does carries some spares and accessories and brings stuff in regularly in his car containers if you want something sourced stateside.
He is open on Sundays too, handy if you are stuck for something relatively common.
Been doing it for a while now.

We can cross NPD off the list until something changes.

You can cross EVERY US supplier for that matter. No US company is going to collect tax for another government, not only are they not able to understand or set up the accounting system, but it would also be an enormous headache for the company accountant when dealing with the IRS.

The smarter way would have been to have the carriers collect it as they all have bases here (Australia Post, UPS, DHL, FedEx or any Australian shipping agent). To expect an overseas company to collect prior to shipping is actually impossible as they do not know the final cost of the goods landed in A$ at the conversation rate when duty is calculated.

I bought my borgeson box this morning off ebay in the US. Was AUD700 landed vs AUD1050 (plus $50 freight) locally.

If you look at the legislation, after July 1 it has to be the seller according to the Australian Government.

To date summit and the like haven't had to do anything as it was on customs to pull up parcels that exceeded the $1k threshold. The courier services like UPS & Fedex etc have become very efficient at it and most have their own customs processing services and so lodge the customs stuff on your behalf to keep your parcel moving. If you get something in the post and customs pulls it up I can assure you the same happens in a much slower manner.

The legislation starting on July 1, only requires foreign businesses that turnover AU$75k and over to register and collect gst on products shipped to australia. So the likes of summit etc would certainly be required to register, but your smaller dealers that may not exceed that threshold won't necessarily. The way the legislation is written, it considers a platform like ebay or amazon as the seller - not the individual. Summit may be able to get their courier services to charge the applicable fees but the way the legislation reads im not sure that actually complies.

Anyway, whats not clear is how this legislation would be enforced and how it's been communicated to the foreign companies. I've spoken to Baer about it as we get stuff thats urgent via air & other via sea which goes through customs anyway. They haven't heard anything about it! Maybe they don't ship that much to Australia and haven't been notified? So if you are buying post July 1, might be worthwhile checking with the seller if they even know about the change.

Summit use I parcel and Global delivery network to date they have both been doing the GST as part of the delivery for over $1k the check out seems to still suggest that. Summit would ship heaps to Australia via ebay and their store.

It looks as though comgateway is gearing up for the GST stuff, so you can always get things sent there and have them collect the GST component.
