looks like some good panels, whats next... the tray? Γ°ΕΈβ€˜Β

No way mate, the tray is a long way off. Next easy bits will be the doors, can do them and store them.
I am having the chassis modified in the next few weeks need to get those previous mods rectified and will take the short cut of having a reputable chassis man look after it. I hope it will make my life easier when it comes to engineering.

Very small update, Two more panels in etch awaiting repair.
I swear it took longer to fight off photo bucket and Adobe updates that it did to get the fenders this far.

Anyway, pulled the next panel... LH door, noticed that there was no hole for the door lock and absolutely no evidence of there ever having been one.

Got me stumped so any insight will be looked upon favourably.

It is the LEFT hand, i.e. drivers door Pete. Agreed that it is only the custom cab that has a lock in both doors, but it was the RH door that misses out.

Were any released in RHD countries? Maybe you ended up with a passenger door from a RHD?

Yep they were LHD and RHD but I doubted that anyone would import a second hand door back into the states.

Anyway here is the answer courtesy of Ford forums.

"The rationale for having only one outside lock on the passenger side was that many states had laws that prohibited a driver from exiting the vehicle on the road side. If the driver was only getting out on the curb side then there was a need for only one lock access on that side. They also felt that if the driver could not lock the truck from the road side of the vehicle then he would be forced to use the proper "curb" side door. "

I never would have guessed.

It it just a matter of cutting a hole, or are there other structural parts required to support a lock?
You could always just padlock it.

There is no problem with modding the door, even a kit available which includes a template. I was just curious as to why. To be honest I will probably just leave it as is, including the lock in the RH door and use remote locking. A topic for conversation down the track.

Thanks mate but I think that padlock idea is better suited to later model vehicles. About 67 onwards...
