Comp say XE cams work ok with lower compression, but I would a assume a 282 would want at least 10:1, The Lunati one I put in 69ish's 408 specified more then 10:1

Personally I would want at least 10:1 but a little more would be nice. Having said that it is simply difficult to get there with flat top pistons.

You forget 92/93 US octane is equivalent to our 98 here.

OK, I have been reading.
A few questions now. Assume that the motor is built correctly with machining and bolts being good quality designed for some work.
1. Whats the safe rev limit for the crank and rods? I will build to that restriction. The people reckon 7,000, is this correct.
2. Can I use dome popup pistons to bring CR above 10.0 (lets aim for 10.5). I see JE have them but 12.5 on a 62cc head. eeek
3. Heads - desired cc and intake volume, valve size? Not brand focussed

So back to the start - a solid motor that will keep up with or shut down my wifes 325 GTS (sorry for bringing the Opposition product into it)

Assuming a 302 hence the 3 inch stroke fully balanced - good ARP rob bolts then 7k is easy and safe but you may need more depending on your HP goals. If you want to make it easier on yourself then a 347 stroker simplifies the equations. You can get a lazy 420 - 450 HP without revving the day light out of it. This would be the first choice - stay 302 or go 347. Then build around that choice as the parts change.

As far as pop up pistons for a 302, try and get a set that are as light as possible. Some sets are very heavy. We want light as we want the engine to rev hard and fast. It might be best to work around a Max 10:1 and stay with flat tops. Simplifies the built though I will check out the latest offerings when I have a moment if you like.

Make the first decision and we can move the discussion forward from there.

I think you need to aim bigger. A stock 302 is such a slug of a motor, even one from an AU XR8. Sure the bolt on parts will help a little but I don't think you'll be halfway to your goal of beating the wife's GTS.

So yo want some ARP wave lock rod bolts and then you must resize the rods. pistons, have a look on Summits web page and see what the from Probe or SRP etc , With flat top you'll need to deck the block to 0 height and take some of the heads as well think you can get 190 11R heads with 56cc chambers also

That is easy. The most common kits around the Scat gear is what I have used.

Ideas for you to start your research ith

Combination Option 1) Hot 302
(a) Use AFR185 61cc chambers [to suite the domed pistons] with springs to suite the Cam [greater seat pressure then recommended],
(b) AFM N71 Camshaft.
(c) Vic Jnr Intake,
(d) 650 or 750 Quick Fuel/Holley DP with a 1 inch spacer plus big exhaust system.
(e) Manual 5 speed with 4.56 rear
(f) Probe Done pistons SRS -8 cc done. PBP-10466-STD or equivalent.
(g) Compression 11:1 - 11.5:1

Combination Option 2) Solid 347
(a) Use XE274HR ground on 110 centers because your using a Carbi
(c) Air Gap
(d) 750 quick fuel/Holley with 1 inch spacer good exhaust system.
(e) Manual with 3:80 -> 4:11 rear
(f) TFS 11R 190 street port heads.

Just a starting point and suggestions.
