They are CNC Brodix ST5.0r about $2K each bare now.

I haven't had them faced and they seem to be cleaning up pretty well with a brass wire wheel. The brass wheel is soft enough to leave the original machining marks on the heads.

I guess if they come up soft they are junk?

Yep only takes second to test them. I would have thought Brodix would be fine but if the fire rings have marked the surface some what they may be soft, like I said take no time to check them and not much to face them if they test ok. 69 ish had water issue on his first motor, I reused the heads on the 408, had them tested and faced. They generally only go soft if they get hot.

Yeah strange, they do recommend 100ft-lb on the head bolts so maybe the higher than stock torque marks the surface.

They were brand new when I got them and this engine has never boiled so they should be fine. Also they aren't warped at all so I don't think that is an issue.

So with family issues and house renovations getting in the way I finally had another go at starting it today.

Heads cleaned with brass wire brush on dermel as well as metho. Block cleaned with bigger brass wire brush on drill (as well as metho). Two coats of Hylomar on the gaskets and it is the same.

I now think it is the intake manifold. There is a plenum under the manifold and that is the only explanation I have for steam getting in all cylinders at once.

I ran the car from cold for 20mins with this. A bit of steam to start (What you would expect on a cold day) then it was fine. Nothing out the exhaust at all. It's the most this car has been run in months. Surprisingly the engine is completely smoke free so it looks like I got away without any real damage.

The mating surfaces of the intake manifold are pitted around the coolant passages. There has to be a pinhole from the coolant into the air intake somewhere.

There is no way there is an issue in a combustion chamber if a bottle of goop can fix the fault.

A new Weber manifold is only $350 on the bay so I think I will just replace it.

I used their copper stuff and it blocked the hell out of my radiator. Hopefully the same doesn't happen to you.
I believe it was the "glass" fibres in there. It sure blocked the hole that was leaking, but then it continued trying to block every other hole in the motor. They pretty much palmed me off when I tried to talk to them about it.

Seriously, if your leak is fixed, drain that shit out and put clean coolant back in.

Yeah the silver one is no where near that bad, there was nothing big enough in it to block the radiator as far as I could see. The cooling system behaved exactly as it should just running it in the garage.

I would never drive the car in this state as whatever the Risoline blocked could give way any second. I've ordered a new manifold.

I guess the 363 pistons are going on the shelf for now ?

There were no chunks in the copper one either. These glass fibres appear due to heat and air or something

Does that intake have plenum in the bottom? maybe has a hole in the front water passage, could likely weld it. If it has the plenum it would get water to all cylinders
