I broke the site

Post by hybrid »

An update has broken the site a little bit.
You'll get an error when you post, but your post will still be entered, so just ignore it for now until I work out what's going on.

That would have been me testing and then deleting posts.
It's fixed for now, so the pay rise is back on.

A couple of things while you're there:

1. I can't upload an avatar, that feature doesn't work either uploading from PC or URL.

2. My email alerts have no title in subject bar or message; it's like a box of chocolates .....

How long has it been happening for?
Just since this update?

For some time; I was going to raise the issue a week or so back but due to all the condolences being the dominating forum issue I decided not to detract from the sentiment with something so trivial.

Hmm.
I was just able to upload my current avatar to a test users avatar and it worked fine.
Also sent myself PMs and the email looks fine.

Is the avatar you're trying to use online somewhere? If so, can you send me a link to it so I can test with it?
Not sure about the email thing - maybe it was fixed with an update recently.

So definitely an issue uploading an image via URL.
The developers site has the same issue when I tested it.

But uploading from computer and the email for a PM look OK to me.

Nope my email subjects still read "Topic Reply Notification -"

I still cannot upload my avatar, it's the same image as in my gallery, which took days to appear

That image took days to appear because image uploads require approval and I didn't see it right away.
So how exactly are you doing it?
Do you get an error message?
Does it meet the size requirements?

Code: Select all

Only one image can be displayed at a time, its width can be no greater than 150 pixels, the height no greater than 150 pixels, and the file size no more than 25 KB.
My bad on the emails - I only checked PMs. Will look into the topic emails.

I just checked your picture. The thumbnail version of your picture does meet the requirements.
I copied it's address and put it in the upload field and it worked, so I'm not sure what you're doing.

In any case, the image is already on the system so you shouldn't need to upload it again. Just copy the location of the thumbnail and paste it into the "Link to offsite avatar" field.
That should also work.

Edit:
here is the link you can just copy/paste in:

Code: Select all

https://www.mustangtech.com.au/modules/coppermine/albums/userpics/440/thumb_sss.jpeg

I had one reduced to the right requirements - no worky. So then I d/l'd the pic to the gallery so I could upload it via the gallery and when I go to upload from the gallery all I see is emoticons.

I've put in several addresses to upload from and each time it says 'Operation Complete' and I see no avatar.

^ Did that just now, 'Operation Complete' comes up in green banner; still no worky.

As for emails; your reply came through as usual, no subject.

Thanks for looking into this btw.

I will try and read this properly tomorrow, but at the very least I think you are confused between the avatar gallery and the user image galleries.
The avatar gallery is just a bunch of generic avatars. Not user editable.
The photo gallery is editable by users, but it's not really linked at all to avatars. It just so happens that I have made the thumbnail size fit within the avatar limits so we can use our gallery thumbnail images as avatars.

BTW, I haven't fixed the emails yet. I had a quick look, but I think the developers will need to fix it.
