Forgive my ignorance, but what the hell are bots?

Automated computer processes that scan web sites. Google for example uses them to collect pages to add to their search database.
I will someday think of something clever to say.

apparently that is why i can't get tickets to Ed Sheeran, the scalpers are using bots to get the tickets
