I was re-reading this thread again and the tablet discussions reminded me of an affordable digital dash I found for Megasquirts:
Digital Dash EFI
Has auto start and close with ignition, auto syncing of data logging, customisable etc. It also runs the full version of Tuner Studio so can do your tuning there via a wireless keyboard and mouse.
