Project Super bug

Post by Shaunp »

Youngest Daughter Lozzy wants a Bug for her first car, she likes the Cal look style. Lowered, wheels, roof rack etc, Oh it also needs a loud stereo and AC!
I picked up this 71 super bug for the build, really a Cal look bug should based on an earlier car. But figured an early super bug makes the best daily driver, with disc brakes, strut front end and Porsche type rear end. Its got fresh 1642 engine, nice sidewinder exhaust and rebuilt box, set of Hotwires, new set of TMI seat covers. Goes pretty well, Ive never driven one before, they are surprisingly fun to drive.

She keeps changing her mind on the colour. she was keen on the 2 tone look, ie a 60's pale green or blue with white sides, but she has found a picture of Kandy red one now. with period Empi wheels or chrome Porsche wheels. So I'm going to drive it to work for a bit till she works out what she wants

I will be building another VW (59) this coming USA trip. Stock however .......

Lots of go fast bits over there, in fact a good VW place near where I will be in Sacramento.

BTW, the early bumpers look great on the later bugs like you have

Yeah there is some good shit for them in the US, Ive been looking. Maybe you could bring me a set of fake Webers and some heads back in you carry on luggage. You can buy special brackets to mount the early bars on a super.

Yeah, you have to keep at it now that you can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Mine always played second fiddle to life. When I had time I didn't have money, when I had money I didn't have time. When we went into business I always said I would never knock back a paying job to work on my own car. When my son said he wanted to go to his year 12 formal in it I had 8 months to get it on the road. Registered it with 3 days to spare.
