Stupid question but to me it looks like the two tanks only join at the top and not the bottom so how did they keep the fuel level as the tanks drained?

Often they would have a tap on each side.

Correct hybrid, both of those tanks, probably all early Pommy tanks, are twin taps. Some have an equalizer pipe.

Twin taps work ok, ay least if you leave one off they do...

very nice. As someone learning to TIG weld, I appreciate even more the skill on show. BTW, they never mentioned grinding the tungsten was part of the process

Finished these over the last week. Been a bit cool in the shed, so not working real late. These tool boxes are tricky little things & getting the lids to fit is quite a chore .....

Norton tool box. Was in bad shape & the hinge was torn off .......







1938 Ariel tool box. PO had brazed 3 bolts to hold it together, now back to stock with all the damage beaten out ....

Great work!! Love my old bikes. Somebody needs to perfect a way to restoring the plastic tanks back to original shine quickly. It can be done but very labour intense. All that sanding back by hand!! Real market for it these days!!

Ariel rear mudguard had been "bobbed" to allow rear wheel removal without taking the mudguard off. That had to be rectified .......

Cardboard pattern was made off a standard rear mudguard that allowed me to make the new section. It was made in 3 pieces .....





Then trimmed to shape so the edges could be wired .......



Edge wired & flared .......







Some non standard holes were filled ......







That was all as it was then given back to be blasted & primed.

Today's effort ..........

Truck belongs to the local weed spraying guy. The boom fitted to the back of the truck was too wide (by some 230mm) & was constantly bending it because of the protrusion from the sides of the truck.

So I cut it down & made some adjustments so it folded up nicely & not too high. Of course that meant cutting down the piping & re positioning the spray nozzles. Also involved a bit of machining, so we involved the rest of the street ........

Jesus, are you some form of moto cross doomsday prepper or something? The only time I have seen this many bikes is in China outside a train station!
