Evenings at the Duggo shed

Those that visit Duggo would also know I build or repair a lot of bike parts. Over the past 8 years I have helped in the restoration of many 60's Japanese 2 stroke bikes & the latest being a rotary.

Also in that time I have restored a lot of tanks & mudguards for pre & post WWII English bikes. Last week was this tank for a 1928 DunelT Model K 250. First pics are after pulling out the dents, blasting, then prime & some plastic filler. Interesting thing about these tanks is that for 3 years after going to saddle tanks, they were still soldered together, not welded. So that made the repairing "interesting" to say the least ......

Never tried the online census as they think that Duggo has no internet & delivered a paper form.

However I did have trouble with my biro as it kept timing out, but I soldiered on & got it done before the "Window of opportunity" passed .....

The census people must have contracted a couple of friends of mine (another forum) to run the online thing & as expected, it crashed ........

How hard would it be to work out that 16 million people logging on to their website after tea might make it crash...

It was absolutely brilliant for me, logged on at 1630 WA time and finished in 20 minutes.
I was so astounded that a government website actually functioned at all let alone as well as this did, I commended them at the end in the comment section.

Back to discussing bike tanks ......

This one is a late 1920's Velocette 2 stroke tank ......



I would say it was laying on the ground for many years as there was very little of the base left ......







First the tank sides were repaired .......





The oil tank received a new base .......









New base fitted to each side, note the can for the coil that fits up inside the tank .......









The bracket on the base is for the gear shift that you can see in the bottom pic of the bike .......



All primed ......







I would think this is the model of bike it is from .......

The Velocette was welded. No brazing of the tanks, only the bike frame, like you would find on E Types or race car tube frames. Nickle bronze not manganeze.

Stupid question but to me it looks like the two tanks only join at the top and not the bottom so how did they keep the fuel level as the tanks drained?

Often they would have a tap on each side.
