NSW Registration Requirements

Post by banstis »

Hi All,

Trying to find the right up to date information here.

I am about to pick up my 1970 Mustang Convertible, bog standard from the guy who imported it for me (Who I highly rate).

What needs to be done to get registration, just a blue slip?

I rang a local inspector and he wanted to know if I had an engineers certificate?

For the blue slip do I need to change indicators, seperate out the brake light, seat beats???

Whats a good local source for what I will need - I should be able to do most of this myself.

Thanks for any help, very keen to get on the road!

Hi.. welcome to the forum.
You need a blue slip, purchase receipt and import approval papers to go to the RTA and get rego. That's it.
Because of the age of the vehicle you should not need to change anything else.

I'm pretty sure even the seat belts - as long as they are factory ones - do not need to be replaced.
If you replace them, they will need to be Australian Standards compliant.

You would have to change the headlights wouldn't you Hybrid?

Yes! Forgot about that... I had to do that too.

That would depend on the blue slip guy, but yeah you might get pinged for that.
I'll have to check whether mine dip the right way. They didn't check it on mine.

Thanks all for your answers - that was quick!

OK, so then what do I need to do for the Blue slip?

Any recommendations on a Blue slip inspector that knows what they are doing? (I am in the Balmain area)

Thanks!

It's the same as any other blue slip.
If the car is meant to be a driver, you can check the basics yourself - lights, brakes, rust, seat belts etc

Outside of that, take it to a blue slip place. If it fails they should tell you what you need to do to fix it.
If you aren't a hands on person, just let the mechanic that did the blue slip inspection fix it all. You know it will pass the blue slip next time for sure - he's not going to fail his own work.

I don't know balmain well.
I do know a good mechanic in Seven Hills who does my pink slips and knows/loves old cars.

Welcome to the Forum Buddy. Lots of good advice here, some of it sound. Some of it designed to get an impact. That can be good or bad depending on your perspective. Mostly we talk mustangs until the pony comes home!

Give Ed from H.Reid & Sons a call 0418 618 905 and get him to tow the car from the docks to SMS Performance Bankstown. Ed's an older guy, straight up and knew the guys in the warehouse on first name basis.

Chris from SMS can do the inspection, swap lights and if your car passes, issue the blue slip.
