Cheapest way to import wheels from USA

Post by ACTstanglover »

Hi,

Anyone got some recommendations for the cheapest way to get some brand new wheels sent to Australia. Standard freight seems very expensive.

What options do I have? Anyone done this and found a cheap way?

Cheers

What about using a freight forwarder?

Alot of the importers will do a cubic meter for approximately $450 (need to verify) which allows an engine, wheels etc to be imported for a fixed price.
I will someday think of something clever to say.

If your happy to drive to syd give harrys classics a call. He brought my wheels and tires in a few years ago. Most of the good wheel places in the usa will send wheel sets for free across the US. So you get it sent for free to harrys container then his fee and gst to australia. From memory it was 50-60 a wheel with tire.

Dunno if theres a cheaper way but cheaper than direct thats for sure.

Have you exhausted every avenue to get the wheels in Australia ??
with the lousy exchange rate, freight costs and waiting time it would seem to be a better option to purchase local if possible.

There are several places in Melbourne and Sydney that have a big range of lesser know wheel brands.
Performance wheels in Adelaide manufacture several differing wheels at good prices

I spoke with Harry's in Sydney last week about this. Didn't ask for a price though. This would be the cheapest way easy or anyone else that does the same thing.

There is a place ( Showwheels ) in Melbourne that are advertising Performance mini-lites on EBay for $1020 per set
brand new with delivery in a week to 10 days

don't know if Show wheels purchased the manufacturing equipment from Performance or are sub contacting performance to make the wheels for them

nothing on the performance web site about a shut down

just found the shut down info on Gumtree
tis a shame to see another australian company go down.

but there is a dude on gumtree advertising the performance wheels on a you pay me and I get them manufactured basis

all that aside the are several other importers / retailers flogging all kinds of wheels - just beware the Chinese ones

So them Andrew, you dropped the ball and sat back watching. Pray tell, what wheels you are pondering over and we may be able to advise a good source for them right here in Oz.. Unless there are some closer to home in Moes Garage of course!

I know exactly what wheels they are.... Keep everyone guessing though. Speaking of rims, I picked up a couple the other day. Looks good with the tyres fitted.
