Closing Side Blocks - testers please

Post by hybrid »

I have managed to get the side blocks to be hidden in the test website.

Those of you who wanted the ability to hide the blocks, can you test it please?
If it works OK, I will merge the code into the main website.

At this stage, I believe it will only stick for your current session.

More work required I think.
The blocks are reverting to open on each page load.

I'm sure this was working OK earlier :confounded:

Ok, I think I really have this working now.
Can those of you who used to close off the side blocks please test at the test site.

I can see the cookie being written now, and the website checks that cookie on startup and hides the blocks if they were previously hidden.

I need to check whether this is remembered after logouts etc.

On the test site that I have linked to, above the blocks on the left and right, you will see two little images that aren't on this live site.
They look like this: Image

Some of our users liked to get rid of the side blocks on the old website so there is more room on their device (usually mobile, tablet etc) for the main content.

If you click those buttons, you can hide/show the side blocks.

I don't want to implement it on the live site until people have tested it on all sorts of devices and browsers. Particularly the people who used that function previously... who seem to have gone missing ;)

Not that I'd use it myself, but it appears to work ok on an iPhone. No longer have a crackberry to test with.
