New website preview

Post by hybrid »

I'm very close to pushing a new website live. It still has some minor bugs, but I think generally speaking, it will do the job.

This new version will eventually allow us to more easily make a mobile friendly version of the website, although that will be some time away.

Have a quick look and let me know what you think. It's using an old version of the live database, so the latest forum posts are months old.

You may not be able to log in at first. If you can't, you can try clearing your cookies for www.mustangtech.com.au (if you know how) and that should fix it.

Hey Jeff,

Just poked my nose in over there using Safari on an iPad. The only thing to comment on now is there are no side menu collapse options so the main frame is very cramped.

Menu links seem to work and the login is ok although no Captcha at the moment which I presume will go into later.

Couldn't really gauge anything else just yet.

Thanks for your efforts in supporting us all once again.

I don't know if I will bother with the collapsing side blocks in the new site.
When a mobile version comes online, I doubt any of the side blocks will be there.

Captcha probably also won't go into the new website. It's been "cracked" long ago by the spammers, so it's probably not serving any purpose currently except to annoy users when they log in ;)

Posting issues have been fixed.
Feel free to give the place a test.. if I don't find anything in the next little while I will look at going live with it.

Just posted a reply and it certainly looks messy from a mobile device. I only access from my iPad and whilst I haven't been particularly active in recent months it will make it somewhat difficult to keep in touch with the forums if you cut over when there is no mobile app available.

Certainly not trying to make any demands here as I respect how much you do for us all Jeff through hosting the site and these such upgrades however I am curious how many members access only via mobile devices as it may have a bigger impact than we think right now.

Do you have any website stats gathered on device type connections Jeff?

I would be once again more than happy to make a contribution to your time for development of a mobile app for this new site Jeff... just my 2 cents...

Im looking at it right now on a tablet, and with the tablet sideways it displays just fine in two different browsers.
Maybe its just a shitty apple browser?

By the way, site statistics show 75% of the hits from bots, the next 20% from ie/firefox/chrome

Safari is about 2%

For now i have removed the right blocks from the Forum module.
When i modify the template to allow collapsible columns, i will put them back.

Yeah, admittedly I only use the stocky Safari browser...

Is it any better now with the right blocks gone in the forums?

Current look from an iPhone 6. Thank god captcha is going, it's bugged me for years how the default is sentence case so the first letter is a capital. I could have said something but that would be the smart thing to do :rotfl:
