Count me in... Or perhaps given I will be in Sydney in the second week of December perhaps I could take Oz's spare and Mo can just sit back and wait... :poke:

I need to keep more of an eye on my account now that I have the new server written because I'm not sure what was happening with the old server. If a message didn't get through, the tracker may have kept trying to send.

Heres a snapshot from my account now though... it's higher than I was expecting actually!

Date Usage total
17 Nov 8MB
16 Nov 4MB
15 Nov 37MB
9 Nov 3MB
8 Nov 3MB
7 Nov 69MB
2 Nov 23MB
1 Nov 82MB
31 Oct 208MB
23 Oct 1MB

The database shows 616 entries from 31st Oct.
That would suggest around 340byes per communication.
Meitrack says there is approx 160byes in their messages, so the rest must be communication overhead if Telstras system is to be believed.

Also, on that day (I think thats the day I drove to the wheel alignment place) the tracker was probably configured to send every 10secs, which is overkill. 20sec or higher is probably better. Realistically if it's you driving, you don't need to update anywhere near as often. It might just be fun to see where you went, so your default setting could even be set to 1min. Then if your car is stolen or someone else drives it, you use the website or SMS to tell it to check in more often.

Sending commands is now integrated into the website.
You can see it mostly as the demo user on the live tracking page. However, actually queueing commands as the demo user is disabled.

Now I just need to code the communication backend to send out to the trackers.

Hi All
found this sim deal for data only (500Mb for $4.95 per month). Kiss uses Vodafone who are now much better re coverage.

They can do a deal if enough of us want to go ahead
Cheers

I will change the code now so it doesn't remove the queued command until after we receive back an OK message.

If I understood what you quoted I would say "That is fantastic, great result well done"
However, as I have only a slight understanding I will just go on your 'success' and say
"Great work, Hybrid"

Any thoughts on the sim deal above?

Does data only mean no SMS?
I think SMS still has its place with these, just in case it's not configured to check in to the server very often. With SMS you can force a command straight to the device.

Vodas coverage is still not a patch on Telstras. My concern is if someone takes the car to a rural area, you're screwed.

Jeff,

Have you posted on a different thread a tech story on how to set it up if one wanted to.

I am keen to get one now, will follow up with others if a bulk buy is worth doing

Cheers

I haven't done anything on the install as it's pretty self explanitory with the instructions, and you don't want to advertise where you installed it.

There are instructions in the download section on how to configure it to use my tracking website though.

Also, my old boss still has 7 units in Sydney. They are the MVT380, which is the higher spec one than mine. It just has more inputs/outputs.

In another thread here, they were listed as $165 inc GST, so I assume they would be the same price, although if you can get a group to buy all 7 I might be able to chat to him about a better price.

I think the ones we did in the group buy were $120 inc post, but again they were the lower model.

Edit: heres a link to the MVT380 user guide so you can see how its wired.
