Looking at that DSO it seems to be a rainbow of colours car. i have found the 2 previous order number colours to this one, 0777 and 0778, and both are rainbow cars.

Marti should give you the colour code.

Dave's 68 Coupe (Update)

Post by DavesStang »

All ,

Its been 12 months since I added to this one so here is a current status .

I have been slowly tiding up my car while hoping to eventually reach a point where
its road worthy enough to get registered. I have been fixing countless little
bodgey mechanical and electric bits that and although it may not be obvious from my pictures
there has been quite a few fixes / changes .

A few examples - Alternator wired with a dead short (yes it was toast) - Replaced
Transmission cooling lines cut then joined back together with rubber hoses ,Replaced
Cheap aftermarket gauges for oil and temp - new wiring and senders added to
restore the originals to working order.
New fuel Tank and sender
New dash Facia's and dash pad
Missing bolts in the engine mounts - Replaced

Best upgrade was adjusting the rockers , When I got the car the engine was rough , noisy and sometimes back fired when you hit the go pedal . We found on inspection it had very badly adjusted
rockers with solid lifters some were very loose , some too tight . Now that's been corrected it starts good and revs fast and smooth , Got be happy with that

Also as a bonus we found it has a Mexican Block 302 , which so far specs wise
I have noticed Hooker headers , Edelbrock 4 Bll , double row timing chain , comp cams roller rockers and guides.
so who knows what other goodies have been added within ?

All still a work in progress but see below for a couple of more recent pics

Next job is brakes :scream:

Nice one... it's all those fiddly bits that take all the time.

Yes that last 10 percent takes 50 percent of the build time, and it is still a nice looking coupe.

You said it , and as fast as I fix something I find another little job that needs doing . e.g spent a few hours just tracing wiring to work out why the drivers door interior light switch didn't work.

Current remaining jobs are :

C4 Selector shaft oil leak
Brakes are just so so , found the reservor empty last time I checked so probably a leaky
wheel cylinder somewhere. If the front drums are no good I will be look at doing the Disc conversion
sooner.
Install some new door interior panels
Swap to Aussie style Headlights

Reco and install the Heater ( In progress )

Then maybe off to the pits ??

Dave
Did you ever sort the engine issue out we discussed? Interested to learn what, if anything it was.
Hope you are still persevering with the thing.
Cheers

Hi Jacko ,

Yes all sorted and then some - tried to sort it myself for a good while but just got worse .eventually it was
either send it to the classifieds or my local Mechanic . Went with the latter... Carb was apparently
over fueling the motor to the point where it had fouled all the plugs & contaminated engine oil as well...

There were a lot of other things wrong but this was the biggest problem.

Excellent as you had done a lot (97%) to get it where it was. And the timing mark/indicator what was the go there. So are you driving it now?

Checked the timing mark from scratch , did the whole, Put it on TDC on number one and it lined up
so that excessive advance we found was probably real as well ? Not driving it yet ..Still with the mechanic , figured since it was already out there I would get some other stuff fixed . It just came back from getting
the C4 serviced and a bad leak on the selector shaft fixed.
