Is the transmission going to come up any higher? Just asking as on mine we had to trim the top of the original floor mount as to not interfere with the T5. You seem to have a shitload more space there

I will have it so there is at least 10mm of clearance to any part of the floor or cross member. Very similar to any Tremec that I have fitted.

I only played with the firewall & tunnel opening to gain more "mechanic friendly" space, but not the tunnel itself. When I am building something like this car, I aim to make every part removable without dismantling a lot of other stuff. Example is when done, the gearbox will be able to be removed with only the drive shaft being the other part needing removal (same as gbx78's car).

Rack was fitted up, needed more clearance to the oil pan, so engine was lifted some 5/8". That did not make any difference to the tunnel clearance for the Tremec.

John turned up & changed my idea of the rear mount to this ......

Very happy with the result, easy to dismantle & minimum of mods to make it fit.

While there we fitted the diff. Interesting as the front bushings on the springs were too wide ..... :impatient:

Last weekend John came down again & we tackled the front suspension. We drilled for the "Shelby drop"

John also wanted the towers strengthened similar to the Mustang Trans Am mods of the late 60's (the dog bone shaped plates fitted to the outer part of the towers).

First, make a cardboard template (cereal boxes are a great source of cardboard for this type of thing) ......

Then cut out the shape in some 2.5mm steel & fit to the tower .....

Welded (the hole is for inspection & to allow paint & rust proofing inside) Grommet is a seat grommet, I have lots of rubber sets so have heaps of spares .......

Nice pics. I like the TA mod - also helps keeps the dirt out of the top of the rail.
I assume the kink is needed because of the added anti-dive angle. Good to see it.

One comment - after my experience - I would move the holes back further than 1/8th especially when you add in the anti-dive offset. 3/16th minimum maybe 1/4 inch - I know there might be a minor interference issue but that is easily manipulated.
I will someday think of something clever to say.

The "kink" is in there to match the shape of the rail edge so welding is easier. I could have changed the upright edge of the rail but was easier just to put the fold in there. Call me lazy ...... :lol:

I kept the 1/8" so the holes were directly below the originals. Moving back further would see the front nut impacting on the upright reinforcement of the tower. I will add a pic tonight to show what I am talking about.
