My first Mustang - now registered in my name

Post by ACTstanglover »

Well after nearly 3 years of looking and lots of procrastinating I have finally purchased my first mustang. All the way along, I knew what I wanted, but my expectations were too high. So after a taste of reality and a couple of missed opportunities, I bought the best rust free car I could buy (amazingly found it 2kms from home), and from now on it is time to add my touch to it. I am not a fan of the colour (springtime yellow) as it stands, but give it time and I will see how I go.

Car is a 65 fastback, RHD, standard 289, 4 speed manual, RRS rack and pinion steering. Car has no A/C or P/S. It has a few minor issues, but the car is driveable, that is if you like the horn on the Grant steering wheel beeping every time you go over a bump or around the corner. Doesn't help that the previous owner glued the horn on to the steering wheel.

So, what's next, take up the fight with ACT rego to get the car transferred into my name, at the moment it has failed on a technicality.

Before I finish, I just want to send out a big thank you to those that helped make this purchase possible, especially Moe and Nuts. The amount of time these guys have put into finding cars, and in Nut's case, a number of inspections. I also want to thank those others who I have harassed and requested assistance, including Shermatt for multiple phone calls and BossKraft for looking for me in the US and for helping me out.

I look forward to thanking you all in the future and repaying you at some stage. Here is the pic of my first mustang.

I have no doubt I will be calling on all of you for lots of advice

Cheers

Andrew

No Moe, that was the pic from the previous owners garage when I drove it, he had different wheels on it. My pics were too large to upload, need to learn some mustangtech tips on photo sharing, probably best to try from my photobucket. Might talk to you at work about it later

Thanks guys for the kind words

Nice one!
It looks more like white in that pic than springtime.

Looks the goods mate. 1st springtime yellow does grow on you  .
2nd the RRS manual R&P is very nice on the road, not so nice in the carpark but I still like it.
3rd, A/C is overrated.
4th the PO glued the silly Grant horn button on because in summer the thing get f@#kin hot, pops off and lands in your lap burning the crap out of your irrigation equipment.

Nice car mate, enjoy. :like:

Very nice. A small bug bear of mine - they did not swap the wipers over.....arrrr. Any way, happy ownership - looks very sweet. Good model choice.
I will someday think of something clever to say.

Boofhead, great pick up, they didn't swap them over, and that means i have a wiper motor in my glovebox. Not ideal, althought there is a cd player in the glovebox too which restricts things anyway. I have to keep the wiper blades 30mm longer on the right side, (Rego requirement).

It does look white when the lights are bright or in direct sun, but definitely springtime yellow. Wife wants to know why i don't just change it to red or blue.

Will post more pics later

The best part of the deal is that it's a driver and a good looking one!
A lot of us are going through the process of getting our cars to rego stage and are always envious of someone who can turn the key and cruise.....
Hope my 65 looks this good soon.

Cheers
