Yeah, I'm interested too.... I'm looking to bring in something like a enclosed 5th wheeler perhaps 30' long, RORO.

Kerry, is that because a container is taller than it is wide?

Hi Matt,
Thanks for your help.
If your mate is Craig don't worry
I have sent him an email when I was first looking
but he never replied back.
My boat is now here and for sale.
As soon as it sells I will be off to the states to purchase another
boat or two or something else.

Cheers..............

PNY56,
All depends on the length and width of the boat.
If the boat has a 8ft beam(wide) then it is loaded in the container
on a 45deg angle then strapped down.
If it is a narrower boat then it would be cheaper.
The guards are also taken off.
If you don't want the trailer then there is no import approval.
Make sure the boat is made in the USA.
Otherwise there is an 5% extra duty on top of the GST.
Some boats were made in Mexico which tricks a few people.
The process is much the same as importing a car.
The guy that imported my boat was
Russel Rohl
chevrolet@yahoo.com.au
I suggest send him an email and he can quote you.
He also does inspections and bargains for you
for a fee of course.
He is based in Geelong and ships from California.

Hey Steph.
Russel can also arrange RoRo.
But with campers and 5th wheeler gotta look out for
wich side you door is on and the set back of the rear wheels to
the back of the trailer.
Russel will know exactly what to look for.
Cheers..............

This will be for sale when it arrives.
Edit ...just saw your post above - in between typing this one!!

Very nice and tidy unit A67PNY,

Was the process just as easy/stressful as importing a car?

l would be interested in who you ended up using at the other end.....still would like to explore something a little larger. 22 – 26 ft …one day soon.

I had a 17 .5 ft Mustang half cabin a few years back – we still all miss not having it on occasions ….Only thing is l’m not sure if it's really me getting larger or them getting smaller .....Willing to lean towards the second side of that one!!

But when you have one (“a boat that is”) , they never seem big enough.

HappyOne,
The process was not very stressful at all.
It did make it easier by me going to the States
and choosing the boay myself and delivering it to
the container yard along with other bits and pieces
that I purchased on the way.
I was fortunate enough that Russel the shipper was also there
at the same time. I would always recomend that if you have the
time, Fly over and do the wheeling and dealing yourself that way there
are no bad feelings towards others if somethings are not as described.
There are a lot of boats for sale but there is also a lot of crap.
I was basically looking for a boat that I can launch and retrieve myself.
HappyOne you can purchase my boat and I will pesonally deliver it to
your door. Its a Four Winns Freedom 18' with a 8'beam and is licenced to carry 8 adults. So it has plenty of room. The 5 ltr volvo penta motor is basically a 305 chev with a volvo mainfold. Thats puts out 220 Hp.
$35000.0

Also have for sale a
2003 Glastron 18.5 ft V6 26000.00
1996 Bayliner Maxum 21 ft V8 350. 32000.00

If anybody is interested...........

donoauto,
This is true if you buy a boat with a outboard motor.
These boats are fitted with inboards that just about all of us here can fix ourselves. Very basic and lots of room to work on.
Cheers.................
