Experience with replacing automatic shift dial?

Hi all,

I bought a new shift (the plastic bit with the letters) dial to replace the cracked one in my auto shifter assembly, but the old one does not appear to be easily replaceable as the bracket holding it in is attached by a spot weld.

Am I missing something or do I need drill out the weld and replace with a screw? or glue?

Has anyone done this before?
