Ok - I think they were a returnless system to start with.
Have you done any mods to the motor? Loaded a new tune, pullied it, cams or CAI etc?

They're a strong motor, but they don't like tires and they don't like petrol....

and come to think of it - they're a heavy sucker too! I dunno how much they'd weigh in comparison to an original 289, but they're a cast iron block and there's lots of metal moving around - and the 6 speed weighs a lot too!

I havent done anything with the engine but it did come with a 2.76 pulley and an aftermarket air intake tube. If space permits, I will use the RRS long runner headers. I have a wide band o2 sensor and will be using Tweecer to modify the EEC. I have all the books, just need to start to learning whats in them.

2.76 inch pulley will give you 14lbs boost +\- a bit, good for over 400rwhp.
Fit better brakes....

the motor is about 100lb (45kg) heavier than a 302windsor.
dont know about the 6speed versus standard box ??
they were rated at 500hp flywheel when new.
Ford said 440fwhp but apparently when they were tested by guys after purchase and found to pull 500fwhp without mods.

They were 390/390 hp/ft-lbs at the crank with all accessories fitted (a/c, alt, waterpump etc).

The 6-speed is really big, and really heavy...

There's one locally that is chipped, pullyed down to 2.71inches and has a K&N air intake, headers rather than manifolds and it's 419rwhp and that's MORE than enough. In the US, everybody talks up some pretty high numbers, but you won't hit 500rwhp without a bigger blower like a 2.2ltr Kenny Bell, bigger pumps, bigger injectors and possibly even cams.

my mistake
re-read where i got specs from.
Yes rated at 390hp factory later found to be the 440hp i was talking about :loopy:
Didnt say rear wheel 500 hp. dont need/want it.
like you say 400hp at the rear is ample power and that would be a f--n quick mustang:lol:

yeah that sounds like all the typical US mods they do for their big power.
dont really need it unless you want to race.

did you still pull yours and sell it and put the 5.0 modular in your car???
