Project Lime A code.

Post by Shaunp »

Seeing as I'm close to getting back to the 67 thought I'd start a build thread, many of you would know some of these pics.
Car is a 67 San Jose built A code, air, steer, tinted glass, sill moulds, Vinyl top, Deluxe black trim. Was factory C4 but it getting a toploader. Build will be in a mild retro style, with as much period stuff as I can find in my sheds. Oh and RHD.

Do not know if you were already going to do this, but I would make that dash a "bolt in" unit like the 69/70 cars. Makes working on the dash so much easier.

That is a mod I would always do if I built another early car.

The top where the dash pad goes on, could be left welded, but the bottom would bolt in. Yes the A/C heater along with the pedal box install were my reasons for the mod.

69 lower dash, bolts in at each end & has a strut in the center...

Image

I would also make a brace from the firewall to the dash so the firewall does not flex when you depress the clutch...

Image

Similar to this one I put in a 69, although I used it as a park brake support (a rod would do the same)....

It's pretty tight on the drivers side with the factory AC blower in the centre, clutch pedal wiper motor and foot pump. Later cars the wipe motor is in the plenum isnt it? gives some extra room The fire wall is pretty heavy gauge on that side, I was going to weld a bit of tube around the clutch push rod hole, flattened out so it picks up where I weld the nuts for the clutch master and a stiffening brace vertically down the wall next to the clutch. To try and spred the wieght of the clutch. But Ill see if I can fit something in there.

Good idea that , making the dash a bolt on. I think i will do it to my 67 vert aswell. I am making the passenger side below the glovebox removable on my 66 fastback to make it easier access to the heater box as i have the huge NC fairlane one in there. I could get it in and out without it but would be a mission.
