I have Viper needs aswell. I just went through the ' I want to bring one in' and no one wanted to know except for a Guy over east that wanted 50k to comply and RHD the car.
Generally, imported vehicles built after 1989 are required to be fitted with an identification plate such as a RAWS plate. For this to occur, the
vehicle is required to comply with the Australian Design Rules (ADR).
The following is an extract form ADR 42/00:
42.5. CONTROLS
42.5.1. Steering System
42.5.1.1. The centreline of the steering control must not be located to
the left of the centreline of the vehicle.
Some personally imported vehicles are exempt from this however this
would require you to be a resident and owner of the vehicle in another
country for longer than 12 months.
Once a Personally Imported Vehicle has been licenced in Australia the
continuation or re-registration will be honoured in its current form,
regardless of the owner.
So basically the only way I can see to have a LHD viper on the road is to either personally live overseas and own a car overseas for 1 year or purchase a car from a returning citizen.

In Vic there is very clear LHD policy, and unless it is a special purpose vehicle you would not get it registered if under 30 years old.
On the personal import, it is limited to one every five years now, and also allows you to avoid GST. I would have a good look at VSB10 (April 2010 update) if you want to know more.

“Middle Age - When you want to see how long your car will last instead of how fast it will go.†.. unknown
The. ACT car club council are trying to get a special vehicles register. Speaks heavily about rally cars.
Will be interesting to watch how they go. It would be good as its 90 days driving per year and only cost of 3 months register.

WA rally plates seem to work like club reg plates here Lee. Test, tune and transport.
