I'm away from home, trapped in BNE thanks to QLD health declaring all of VIC a hotspot! So I can't just go and look and my own 68' nor a mates cars in Riddells Creek, to answer this one.
A mate was asking me the length of my fender apron VIN stamps. His 68's 2 VIN stamps differ in length. One has the characters more spaced out. Car is straight and the sheet metal looks old, so he's trying to decide which stamp is factory and which one may have been done after a repair. Font looks the same to me, and has the little stars each end. The easiest way to answer him is to get a few other apron VIN lengths so we'll have a consensus of sorts.
Got the wife to measure our 68's visible apron VIN and she says its 7.9cm long (why can't spouses measure anything on a car without an argument?)
Can someone do me a favour a pass a ruler over their apron VIN? Appreciate it.

83mm from outer edge of star to outer edge of star.
Ford used the same hydraulic block for years and my measurements were taken off a 67, 68 & 69 stampings I have (I kept all VIN stampings from sections I had purchased in line with US laws)

Thanks Kerry, can’t ask for better than that. And yup spot on, she hadn't included the stars...
