Cowl Replacement Question

Post by Chux »

Hey guys

So you may recall I am restoring a 70 Mach 1.

Well COVID has not been kind for me with time. Working longer hours and on call weekends so the past 16 months have been basically crap for trying to get anything done.

However finally got the engine out and cowl out and got the new cowl ready to do in.

Its a 2 piece cowl unlike some I have seen which are already welded together. So question for the gurus.

The lower section is nice and easy really to install so drill and rosette weld in. Just wondering whether using panel adhesive on the upper section would be better than welding in - its not exactly easy to get a nice bead of seam sealer inside once its welded so thinking that bonding would provide a nice weather proof seal?

Thoughts?
Cheers

Correct. I glue the top in.

On the early cars 64 1/2 - 68, I usually glue both halves in.

3M 08116 panel bonding glue.

The gun is expensive.

If you have an air operated adhesive gun, you can use Sikaflex 252, you will also need the primer (269 from memory) available at Bunnings.
