Water pump Conversion RH to LH

Post by SteveJ »

As I bought a non standard ally radiator I decided to change my water pump to a LH inlet pump to facilitate a shorter bottom hose. I fitted the pump and found two issues. The main one being is that the water pump pulley doesn’t align with the crankshaft pulley which is a three hole pulley. Also there doesn’t seem to be a bottom mount for the alternator. My Car is a 68 J code coupe.
Can anyone Help with this issue?

Cheers

Steve, what brand of pump are you using? I've done this many times and can't remember these issues..

I also have a 24 inch aluminum radiator with the bottom outlet on the left side, bought a GMB water pump and it was 7-8mm longer than the original one, throwing off my crank pulley. Sent it back and now have two bottom hoses with a joiner and my original pump.

Same sized (inner diameter) copper pipe with a rib rolled in each end.

So i went into the back of my local repco with a template made up of a steel pipe and a hose and just found two that may fit. I remember one was a Gates 05-0765 and cannot remember the other, I will look into it in the next couple of days and if you need a photo, I can do that too. I bought a joiner on ebay, similar to this one.

SteveJ, Unfortunately I am crap at keeping notes, but I know it was from a ford fairlane V8, so feel that it was also gates, gates 05-0052. The 05-0765 is the top hose from the pump, I do remember I had to trim a bit off, but not hard.
