Everyone seen this? A 67' Shelby tribute / restomod being raffled for Australian veterans welfare.
Should be a fun car judging by the specs.

Not my taste in finishing either, and I did have a chuckle at the claimed $200K value, but by the specs should still be a fun car, and probably the basis for a nice 67' fastback restomod.

And it’s a good cause. I just look at it as a worthy donation that might, in the remote possibly, get me something fun.

Another Mustang veterans raffle. And another interesting valuation....
A tidy base 1967' C code / 289 FB and a 2018 GT, that looks like it might be a Bullitt, not sure.

Both Mustangs look like they would be fun, but I was curious about a mildly upgraded 67' base 289 fastback being worth $150K! If that's so I better finish my 68' GT 390 FB then, cause I'm rich!
The other looks like a 2018 Bullitt for which they're claiming $82K. Given they sold out and were selling for good prices, maybe that one's not far off?

These guys have been attracting comments on Facebook, not for being crooks, but for their valuation on a current raffle; a mildly upgraded black 1968' Charger (base 318 car - NOT an R/T or a 440 or a hemi). Valued at $269K (yup you read right - $269K). Certainly nice base 318 Chargers on Classic Auto Trader US don't get anything like that. (not even half) Even allowing for GST and shipping etc.

This 2021 Mustang raffle seems to have taken the hint, its valuations are not quite so nuts...

Anyways 2 nice Mustangs and a good cause. So I bought a ticket...

Its run by a Brisbane business called RaffleTix. It seems they organise and advertise raffles for any "legit" cause that approaches them, and take a profit from it. The charity that signs them up obviously gets something but no idea how much. (QLD lotteries rules state no minimum percentage, but NSW has a 30% minimum).

I watched the black 68' Charger draw being livestreamed by the Young Veterans charity (also Brisbane) and the donations they mentioned seemed paltry compared to the ticket sales. (not saying the blokes list of donations was complete or exhaustive). But he was talking about $10K to this mob or that mob etc., and the math means than they took around a million plus in ticket sales... As someone in our (classic muscle) and the motorbike building game, I personally doubt the 2 vehicle prizes would have cost them half of what the stated valuations were, (it turns out any "appropriate valuer", such as a licensed motor vehicle dealer, can provide a written valuation that satisfies the lotteries commission licensing requirements, so any Arfa Daley used car flogger can type up a letter and Bob's your uncle...). Hence the "$269K Charger" that you or I could probably source stateside and land for less than $100K, and likewise the "$80K BMW R80 cafe racer" 2nd prize, that I'm confident I could build for less than $20K, and would then be lucky to sell for more than $30K.

So yes I figure some folks outside the beneficiaries are making plenty from this deal. Perhaps not just RaffleTix. Maybe the charity itself is paying some of the young blokes featured in all their lotteries too?
However if some good comes from it and the prizes add to our fan base then I'm not dead against it.
