Range of 347 auto in 67 coupe

Post by lukep6470 »

Hi,

So after getting my car going again I found the fuel gauge stopped working in my 67. Unfortunately I just filled the tank to the brim to find this out.

I have taken 9L and put in a jerry can in the boot for when the first splutter hits. I've done about 100 city miles so far and am starting to sweat :-)

I have no idea of the city mileage of this motor. I'm guessing I would run out around 250Kms.

How far do other peeps get on a tank with their mid strength 347 EFI automatics?

Ha ha. Always happens. You will get some warning before it stops. Head the warning. As for distance travelled. Better off guessing the litto numbers. Just too many variables.

Have established that its the fuel sender unit and not a wiring issue, fuel gauge or voltage regulator?

If you can get the car up high enough to get a 20 litre drum underneath you can put a length of fuel hose on the sender unit and with a full tank it will start to siphon out of its own accord. Might need 2 or 3 drums.

Yeah when I replaced the efi pump under the back of the car about 12 months ago I had to drain a full tank. I figured this time it would be easier to burn through most of it.

My neighbour had 3 20L Army jerry cans that I borrowed. I figure running up 200Kms on this tank should get rid of 3/4 of it and make it much easier to manage.

Should be about 10 ohms so my guess is that the float is full of fuel.

Yep my float had sunk :-)

So I finally got too scared to drive it. I put a hose in the tank through the filler and it came out dry so I think I'd done pretty well.

When I popped the ring of the sender unit about 3/4 of a litre came out.

How much fuel is in the tank of a 67 at the bottom of the sender hole? The car was on level ground.

About 3/4 of a litre I think.

Lol so less than 2l left in the tank. Talk about cutting it fine.

So the answer to the original question is about 120 miles all city driving to a tank.

Put a 5ltr can in the boot and drive it till it stops, you will then know your range... simples.
