we can use our gallery thumbnail images as avatars.

How is this done?

Go into your gallery and right click one of the thumbnails - not the full size pics. In chrome (and firefox I think) you can then select copy image address.
In IE, I think you need to select properties, then you can highlight/copy/paste the location from the properties window.



Go into your avatar settings, and paste the URL into the "Link to off-site Avatar", then click Save Changes.






I have asked the developers about allowing a user to select an image from their list of thumbnails in their personal galleries as an avatar if a few conditions are met. That would make this process easier, but who knows if they will do it.

I did that with both off-site avatar and from a URL; still no worky.

I get the green Operation Complete banner as you have posted above but no avatar image.

Can you see my avatar from your PC?

I'm using Firefox, maybe that's the problem?

Your avatar is empty in the database. If you select one of the avatars from the avatar gallery does that stick?

I have no idea.

I first uploaded one of the gallery smiley's and it worked and I replied that it did.

Then I went back to try with the gallery thumbnail location and it just happened to work this time so I went back and edited my response.

I wonder if it doesn't like blank avatars or something.
Might do some more testing.

OK, now it's fixed.

Ok, I tested the avatar thing. It does look like the issue is when the avatar field is blank in the database.
I don't know why this matters, but I will see if I can find out.

So for now, the fix is to select a valid Avatar from the Avatar Gallery, then switch to your personal Avatar.
