Questions about Mustrack, the Meitrack or the VT600 GPS trackers should be posted here.

Have responses back from Telstra and Kiss mobile.
Telstra has an M2M (machine to machine) with SMS capability at $17.00 per month for 500MB on a month to month contract.

KISS has 100Mb for $2.95 per month using Vodaphone however they are seeking to partner with Optus n early 2015. Will do sms @14 cents

Unfortunately Optus did not respond.

Hope this helps. I ordered the KISS sim on a trial basis. Hopefully it will arrive in the next week so we can do some testing.

Cheers

:woohoo:

So just logged my first track to Jeff's tracking website.

Man these things are accurate and timely in their reporting. Set an 80km/hr speed alert and within 30 seconds an SMS was on my phone. Pinging the device (by calling it) and it reports in a few seconds via SMS the location, speed, direction etc. accurate to within a few metres.

WELL DONE Jeff... WELL DONE!

Not sure what kind of phone you use, but there is an app for Android called SMSTemplates.

I use that to pre-populate sms templates with commands I might need to use, so I don't have to try and remember them.

I'm sure there is an app or something for those other horrible fruity devices that does a similar thing.

Nice work Mike. Isn't there something nerdily cool about getting these things to work. Jeff is a bit of a wizard here.

I'll check it out thanks Jeff.

Now that I have written the new server for the trackers, I thought I would check my data usage because I had a feeling the old site was causing the tracker to have to re-send data.

Anyway, as a rough figure, it looks like every hour of driving will use around 10MB of data.

So you can estimate the data you will need on your account by working out how much you think you will use the car in a month. That amount of data was used with the tracker checking in every 30 secs.

When I drove to Picton on the 3rd, the server was broken and that 2 hours of driving used 200MB

Massive difference when things aren't working properly.

Jeff, that would suggest the server sends an acknowledgement to the device on receipt of the data; is that correct?

The server itself doesn't send acknowledgement, but the TCP protocol (lower level) does, so the tracker will know if all the information got through or not.

Update to the website.
Users can now view the command queue on the server for their tracker and delete commands they no longer want to send to it.
