As long as the headers don't actually touch the pan you will be fine WRT heat. You could always try flexing them out a bit but I think you will be OK.
WRT diff ratio if your AOD has stock gears go for 4.11. I have 3.55 and wish I had gone shorter.

Timing jumping with cam lope
Hi, So I am getting about a 4 degree variation on timing at idle and low speed. I am using an MSD TFI Billet dizzy that I bought used. I think the timing jump is due to the dizzy shaft having a little bit of up and down movement. There doesn't seem to be any play in any other direction. I suspect th...

Re: Classic Mustang fuse panel clips
Just an updated. I decided to try cleaning the clips in the original fuse box using CLR and some cotton wool buds.
That got SOOOO much gunk off!!! All circuits are working properly. We'll see how long that lasts.

Re: Edz 66 Convertible
This started to get worse for me as well so I metered out the starter circuit and there was 100Ohms between the battery and the wire going to the solenoid. I blame the ageing ignition switch.
I installed a relay between that wire and the solenoid and it hasn't failed to crank since.

Re: holley sniper instal
LOL I never even considered fuel aeration. I have a bulkhead fitting on the FS unit but it doesn't seem to be a problem. Even when I ran this tank down to only 3L left in it it never skipped a beat.

I have my fuel pumps in the same place as you except bolted on the plate facing the rear of the car for protection from debris being kicked up.

Re: AOD will only manual shift
OK so it's fixed
In the end the fault was a broken valve near the TV circuit, they've never seen that before. It is apparently shifting like new.

Holy cow!!!
Still it is an option for anything hooked up to the powerstroke. Maybe the 5 speed auto is smaller?

It would be a nice upgrade from the AOD or 4R70W even:

Ah that is the overflow tank I am talking about. If you look at a SN95 the overflow tank for the 5.0L is massive so the bigger on a SBF the better.

Re: After input for ideas on a basic breakdown toolkit?
I work on what you used to have to carry for extended HW trips. You just need to get it going enough to get to the nearest servo. I carry a full set of spare belts and the tools needed to change them. A water container full or empty doesn't matter as you will probably be near somewhere you can fill ...
