Re: 390 overheating issues
If you go aluminium, don't fall for the 4-row, 5-row BS. With aluminium, what you want is big cores. So at least 1" cores. More often than not, the 4 row and higher (and sometimes even 3 row) are 3/8" cores. Don't use those. You are better off with 2-row 1" cores than a 4 row 3/8&quo...

Re: 390 overheating issues
Without seeing your car, is the flow of air to the front of the radiator impeded in any way? Like aftermarket grill, lights, aircon condenser, oil cooler, even an oversized licence plate…that could be blocking fresh air from coming in. Also, have you installed a quality coolant? I'm finally back on...

Re: 390 overheating issues
My apologies for not replying to anyone recently, the family and I have been dealing with Covid and nothing has been done with the Mustang in quite some time. Does anyone know what temperature a 390 should typically run at (roughly), on say, a 21 degree day? The current line of thinking is to pull t...

Re: 390 overheating issues
Definitely 148mm diameter. 2 grooves. You could see if Bill Upham has any at Mansfield Mustang or West Coast Classic Cougar. http://mansfieldmustang.com/ https://i.postimg.cc/pdq8cTLy/IMG-8143.png https://i.postimg.cc/ZRnNGSWH/IMG-8144.png Thank you for measuring your pulley for me, I finally got a...

Re: 390 overheating issues
You'd think that the thermo fans would have solved the problem if the issue was a lack of airflow when the car is not moving. It still may be the case I guess if the thermos were not moving enough air either. But you've got one of two issues: 1) Not enough water flow at idle 2) Not enough airflow w...

Re: 390 overheating issues
Water pulley diameter should be 148mm. Crank pulleys changed from 67 to 68 so you would need to confirm sizing. I am by no means an expert or a mechanic as such but from experience I learnt a lot working on my own car. Logic would suggest that an upgrade/improvement has had an adverse effect on ano...

Re: 390 overheating issues
Notice that the water pump pulley is stamped “S”. https://i.postimg.cc/90mW3MbG/IMG-8119.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/4x7XRj6F/IMG-8120.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/L4D9tt4v/IMG-8121.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/GhSbNbyy/IMG-8122.jpg Thank you very much for this info, would you by chance have a part number for...

Re: 390 overheating issues
I fully understand what you mean and I really appreciate you taking the time to ask questions just in case we missed something. While we haven't measured the diameter of the pully exactly, I have done a visual comparison of both the crankshaft pulley and the waterpump pulley and both seem to be of a...

Re: 390 overheating issues
We have gone from a brand new original style waterpump to a brand new Edelbrock high flow waterpump and an 82°C high flow thermostat which is definitely oriented the correct way. The waterpump pulley is the original (as far as I'm aware) with it looking like it is the same diameter as the crankshaft...

Re: 390 overheating issues
Hi Jim, yes... when we fitted the 7 blade A/C fan with viscous coupling, we used a shroud from a CobraJet. With the flex fan we used a brand new shroud from a 1970's big block, the shrouds were slightly different in shape but they both gave the same amount of cooling...

390 overheating issues
I'm hoping someone might have some insight on why my engine overheats, it is an FE 390 GT engine with roughly 310 Miles (500 Kms) on it since full rebuild, in a 1967 Mustang which has had a full rotisserie restomod rebuild. • Bored 30 thou. oversize (nowhere near the maximum of 60 thou). • Block che...

Re: Glenn's '67 Project (without a clever name)
I sure have Pete, a nice large piece of timber which is larger than the lower section of the oil pan, I certainly don't want a "can opener" pressed against itPinto-Pete wrote:Hope you've got something between the sump and the jack to spread the load...?

Re: Glenn's '67 Project (without a clever name)
Well... there hasn't been much progress recently but I have replaced the dodgy bolts (they were too long and with way too many spacers) which held the engine to the engine stand. I have also placed one of those Ford scissor style jacks under the front end of the sump and lifted the engine up to a be...
