Electric Washer Conversion

If your car uses the foot activated bellows washer setup and you want to change over to an Electric pump, 67fastysm (Shane) has kindly provided this howto.
  • You need your orginal foot pump/sw
  • The switch mech that is on it must be in working order
  • Take a trip to supercheap and buy a small universal inline washer pump (about $15) and switch (part number 120389)

Instructions:
  1. Remove the old bellows pump/switch from your car

  2. Remove the old bellows from the mechanism

  3. Once the bellows is removed there is a hole aprox 16 mm in diameter.

  4. File the hole until you are able to fit the switch

  5. Once fitted, it is adjustable, so set your height so that when you press down on the lever it makes contact with the rubber boot and closes the circuit

  6. Run a wire from the accessories side of your ignition switch to one side of the newly installed foot switch

  7. Run a wire from the foot switch out into engine bay which will be the feed to washer motor.

  8. As mentioned previously, the existing double pole switch on the bracket must be in working order, as well as the existing wiring from it to the wiper motor and switch in the dash.

  9. Fit the washer pump in engine bay and wire in

Once done its ready to test !
If all is well, this setup allows you to retain your original look, but squirts water to your screen continuously. Even better though, it retains the original switch to start your wipers and then return to the park postion as soon as you lift your foot off the switch.
