There is a current issue with new user registrations that we're working on.
In the mean time, try the Firefox browser if you have it. It seems to work ok, at least on the version we tested.

I will update when it's been fixed.

As promised, here's the April edition of the monthly Mustangtech update three months after the last one! That's kind of monthly, right?

Since it's been so long, this one will probably be a longer update than usual. The projects are in no particular order.

Chux Mach1

First up - Chux bought this Mach 1 project.



As is customary here at Mustangtech, he wasted no time getting right into it. Hats off!



Edz66Vert progress

Ed is doing a lot of work to his 66 Convertible, including new front brake setup that he's designing himself, new radiator, and a new internally regulated alternator.



Husky's 65

Huskys lovely 65 has been getting some attention.

He's added a reversing camera, which is pretty unique.

A new summit throttle body has been fitted to try to curb an idle issue, as well as replacing some rubber fuel lines with braided items.

There has also been discussion about some kind of forced induction... stay tuned!

Mungus' Bullet clone

Mungus has been continuing work on his Bullet clone.
He's had his steering wheel covered in leather and it's come up great.



As well as this, he's been working on finding a good replacement for the stock interior paint colour.

rkmiller's fastback

Ryan has been pretty busy and hasn't had much time to work on his project.
Still, it's looking close and he's going to look at bringing the car home to he can work on it more.


Shaun's project Lime

Project Lime is starting to see some interior work when Shaun finds the time.
He's also bought some Pypes mufflers, which I'm keen on myself, so looking forward to hearing how they sound!




Brandy's rear end

Cage and hybrid pulled apart Brandys rear end to have a look at the diff that was acting like a locker at times.

It turns out that the LSD had too many shims in place and never would have worked properly.
We removed a shim and it measured within tolerance, although on the tighter side.

Ratio was calculated to be 2.75, which is a bit taller than we thought/hoped, but we didn't do anything about that yet.

Project Patience

Ozbilt has done a lot of work on Project Patience lately. It's really coming along now. Too many pics to post, but here's a glimpse!

And it looks bloody great, just quietly.





hybrid's coupe - updated PCV/Catch can

I have re-designed the catch can setup to include a PCV valve again since I didn't like the hint of fuel smell in my oil.
Obviously with forced induction you need to be mindful of pressurising the crankcase. To stop this, I have put check valves in the lines.
I have also added a line to the supercharger intake. The design is illustrated below. The arrows indicate check valves that only allow air to flow in one direction.

What I hope with this design is:
1) during periods of vacuum, the PCV will do it's job normally. The check valve in the supercharger line will ensure that only air from the crankcase is pulled.
2) During periods of boost, the check valve in the PVC line will stop the crankcase being pressurised and will also ensure that the supercharger only pulls air from the crankcase.

So far it seems to be working as intended.
PCV is installed to the catch can.

Originally seen in 2014 and slated to start production a month later, the Galpin Mustang is finally going to production.
However, it will now be produced by VLF Automotive and will be called the VLF Rocket V8.

The Rocket will sport a carbon fibre body and 725 horsepower (541KW) supercharged V8. Adjustable coilovers will be standard and uprated Brembo brakes will be optional.
Pricing has not been released yet, but you can imagine they aren't going to be cheap, with some suggestions of US$120,000 for the base model.
The styling is not for everyone, but it's definitely different and should live up to it's name.

I'm going to try and provide an update on a monthly basis or so on what's been happening on Mustangtech.
Here's the first one for 2017.

Scarlet updates

Gbx78 has been spending some time with his mistress during the break. "Scarlet" has received some new toggle switches for things such as manual cooling fan override, spot/fog light control and oil temp gauge sharing between transmission and engine.



Some cold air induction is also in the works with the help of hybrid and ozbilt. Scarlets most recent updates can be found here.

Brandy is cool

Cage's "brandy" has been given a cooling upgrade in the form of a new radiator shroud and beastly derale fan install.



The improvement was instantly obvious, but some wiring may need to be upgraded now because of the bigger current draw of the new fan. Stay tuned.

Project Phoenix gets some headers

Santa brought 66STNG and Project Phoenix some headers, but there's some fitment issues that often happen when a RHD or rack conversion is done.



Hopefully it's sorted one way or another, as this car seems to be on the home stretch.

hybrid's 66.COOP gets some cold air

66.COOP has been missing the cold air that it used to be fed from the bonnet scoop since being Paxton supercharged. It now has a new cold air system built, which will hopefully help.



Next on the list is a new 2-core radiator and connecting the battery in the boot (trunk).

Project X getting close

rkmiller's "Project X" is edging closer to completion. It's been painted, and is slowly being pieced together as time permits, including exterior trim and interior.

Ford has announced that it will make a hybrid Mustang available in 2020. It is said that the hybrid will produce as much horsepower as the current V8's, but with more torque - which you'd expect from the addition an electric motor.
The Mustang Hybrid, to be built at the Flat Rock Plant, comes in 2020 and will be available in North America to start with.

They are also investing in the development of a wireless charging system, that would enable recharge simply by parking the car.

$75,000 - S code/C6 convertible, Lime gold, black interior, black top. Was a weekend driver after bare metal resto in 2005. C6 has just started slipping and needs a look. $75k Comes with spare C6 (R servo, recent rebuild) and spare black top (existing one is fine, just have a spare I'll add to the deal).

$65,000 - S code/4 sp toploader GT coupe. Royal Maroon, black vinyl roof. Restored from bare metal in 2012. Fried dash wiring harness after getting it driving after resto. Replaced harness and never got around to reinstall dash. $65k Includes many "extras". Has bench seat, comes with buckets and very clean and complte 4 speed console. Most AC parts included as well. Has 67 dual screen air cleaner and comes with full and ready to bolt-on complete and correct '68 S code air cleaner setup (base, chrome lid, correct snorkel, S-tube, heat shield, and functioning air motor, $2.5k US, minimum, if you can even find some of the parts). New 3.25 tru-trac rear.

The EXP below is not so standard, but the quality is top notch.

$110,000 - EXP 500 (Shelby coupe) repli-bute. 445 stroker, C6, 3.00 tru-trac. Custom jarrrah veneer dash and shelby console. Custom OEM comfort weave interior. AM/8 track. Correct Shelby sequencing tail lights. All rear fibergalss OEM, front Branda "best". Took second place at 2014 Melbourne Motoclassica. $110k Comes with a few extras I have not installed, oil cooler, trans cooler.





All three vehicles come with a Marti Report.

Dear readers,
I'm just off the phone with Lumley Special Vehicles to move all my "special" vehicle insurance (one car, two bikes) from Shannons to LSV.
They asked me if I was a member of a club, and I said "sort of" and explained this place, what we were about and how we started.

He's added Mustangtech to their system, and anyone that mentions they are a member here will receive a discount.
I did not get any more of a discount for doing this - I just got the same "member" discount as anyone else would get.

But they were certainly cheaper than shannons (by 20-25%), so it's worth giving them a call to compare.

Ford USA has announced the release of the Mustang GT4 - a ready to race vehicle developed with Canadian engineering firm Multimatic.
The GT4 utilises the 5.2L flat crank V8 that the GT350 sports, but it is mated to a 6-speed race transmission.

Some of the modifications include modified dampers, lower control arms, rear stabilizer bars, FIA compliant roll cage, improved aerodynamics and 18x11 inch wheels with slicks.

On top of all that, it just looks awesome.

Boof expects that some people may not agree with his head runner size selections, but provides some mathematics to back up his reasoning.

It starts to get a bit more technical here, especially with regards to cam selection.
