Heat proof wrapping is a good idea scott. Is it removable?

Yes, just wrap it around either the pipe or solenoid as Scott suggested and use stainless steel cable ties to hold it in place.

Cheers Nassi. I might give it a crack. Its definitely not an "electrical" problem (battery, grounds, wires etc) because it starts easily the when cold without fail and after cooling for about 15 minutes.

I'll let you know how it goes Jacko. It might fix itself as the engine loosens up but until it does, it's a terrible feeling knowing you are driving a "one start wonder" on busy public roads. :rotfl:

Those symptoms are also shown by a failing starter motor.
Not saying thats what you have, just pointing it out for others.

We were considering MYPONY but at $2500 we were not exactly jumping on that. Then, we found GT390 and MY390 are available. Any thoughts?

MY967
BR1967 (not sure if they go that high though, nice horse head on plate)
HI 390 (cool initials, and H is first!!!)
BRO67 (Bro for hookin up a Brother, 67 for year of car, nice horse head on plate)
67.390

Need a coffee, will go and have a think about a few more options

Nice suggestions but we have GT390.
I am not sure that shielding of the starter wil lwork as it is an old 'clapper' style and the solinoid is up in the inner guard.
Lee, it is an auto so I hope never to park on a hill that steep where a 'hill start might help'
Cheers

Only 4 things to slow you down in that case - bad battery, voltage drop on the starter leads (positive or negative), failing solenoid (internal voltage drop/resistance) or a crook starter (bushes, brushes or armature fault)
