Hi guys,

I am about to place an order for a Borgeson power steering conversion kit for a 68 fastback but I have noticed there are two versions of the steering box. 16:1 and 20:1 ratio. As a novice (that means I don't know sh!t) which one should I go for and what is the difference. Cheers Thumbs Up

Its the ratio between steering wheel input and amount the wheels actually turn..
16:1 will be heavier and turn faster, 20:1 will be lighter and turn slower.
As for which one.. its a matter of preference and expected usage..

16:1 will be more responsive with less turns lock to lock.. 20:1 will 'feel' more stable

Cheers,
Birchy...

go the 16:1 on a power box for sure. An XF box is variable, 20 in the middle out to 11:1 at full lock 2.3 turns.

Are you getting it local, or from the US? That might be my next purchase too, I am really over my manual steering with a notchy 16:1 box. Even with 135 wide front tyres, the steering is extremely heavy (even my old Front Engined Dragster was lighter!)

Wouldn't mind one myself.

Whats the current price on them? I may be keen, if it isn't too much.

I assume we are talking about their integrated box ...

I just noticed this on the Borgeson website :

"NOTE: Power conversion box will not fit with factory clutch linkage"

This is for the integrated power conversion box. They are US$549 but I seem to recall the Oz distributor saying they were about $600 odd.

I guess no good for me.

Cheers,
Frank.

Guys,
Below is the info I have from them via emails. I am happy to go back to them to see if we can get a discount for a group buy. From what I can tell they are for automatic transmission only but I am no guru.

67-70 P/S Conversion Kit #999021 $996.02
Column Side Rag Joint #383400 $40.76
68 Tilt Ididit Column metal finish #1300644010 $528.90
68 Tilt Ididit Column chrome finish #1300644020 $639.14

This is everything you need for a complete manual to power conversion. You don't need the aftermarket column though, I just want a tilit one cause of my height.

Power steering box by itself is #800111 $549.00

All in USD

Hi Shaun.

I have a 351w install planned for next year.

When I do that , I want to rebuild/reco my toploader as we already discussed.

If I am happy with that, then I will keep it and maybe look at a gear vendors OD (PO installed 4.11 rear gears) .

If not , then might look at a 5 speed. If that is the case, may go with a cable conversion.

So no Borgeson conversion at least for the time being.

Cheers,
Frank.

If you are doing the box I'd do the gear vendors at the same time, if that's what you want, as you have to remove the extension hosing to fit it anyway.
Buy yourself a nice shifter as well, like a Hurst competion plus.
