I am also now in the opinion I couldn't care less about car value and concours stuff. I just want to drive my car and make it the most enjoyable car to drive as possible. I don't plan on selling it, I don't plan on showing it, I don't car what people in the street think I should have done with it and upsetting those who know it all, well, that is actually quite enjoyable
Sorry to those guys that do get into it. I can't even commit to joining a car club because of the politics.

Amen, brother.
It's your car to enjoy, so do whatever the hell you want with it.
If it was a super rare example I would say to sell it to someone who appreciates it for what it is, use the money to buy a common one and have at it!

But if it's already a common one that the anoraks don't care about... do your thing and screw everyone else.

Max, for the transmission mount, you could use an X frame like what TCP produce (I have a used one at the ranch ..... Embarrassed ). The mount plates could be welded to that X member & still allow an unboltable setup.

The towers, see if you can find a set of towers from a 71-3 Mustang. They have a similar "look" to the B9 towers but will give you the top end clearances without changing suspension design.

If you need more info, give me a call. PM me & I will give you my number.

Anyone can own a muscle car Max. It takes a man to chop one up. Go your hardest. You could mod the towers like a B9 or follow Kerry's advise with the later towers. Getting the towers might be a hassle though.

Cheers guys! Good to see I'm not the only one happy to go against the grain of Mustang ownership.

I had thought about B9 towers a little while ago but when I looked into it the towers were either impossible to find or stupidly priced. What else is different, what else do they require? Is it just different upper control arms?

Looks like the only way to buy repro 71-73 towers is a full apron. Which is too much coin.

What would I need to use for UCA's? Kerry, you said no change to suspension design, does that mean same 69 components or 71-73 parts?
And thanks for the offer to call for info. I'm sure along this journey you will get that call.

I know the TCP brace you mean too, Kerry. I've looked into what to do for subframe connectors and they look like a nice choice. Definitely a good option as you suggest and easy to weld on some tabs. I'll get the height requirement measured first and then make a decision from there on which direction to take.

Which ones are they, the B9 or 71-73?

71-3. Easy to get over in the USA. Your biggest cost would be freight. 71 pictured below ......

B9 towers are made of unobtainium. Used ones come up every so often, but expect to pay around the US$10K mark for them.

Repos are not made, however one guy in the USA made a limited number, but sold out. Last set was fitted by BossKraft here .... www.bosskraft.com/boss...ed-67.html

Could someone not just make up an insert so you could cut out the old towers and weld the insert in?

I would love to have that extra room in my engine bay.

Too hard on a 65/6, but possible on a 67-70. I know an old bloke at Duggo that would give it a shot ...... Laughing

65/6 I fit 69-70 Cougar towers (same as a B2 or CJ tower) .......

This is ok. I get John Cain to ship my bulky stuff over.

I had seen Sean's B9 tower install a while ago. I think that was what got the idea in my head to change mine but soon realised it was not going to happen with those parts.

What about moving the two raised sections here back towards the shock so that they are flush with the middle section where the UCA mounts? I know it is not as much room as the notched tower but it would have to be 15-20mm extra clearance.

Not worth the effort. If you are going to mod it, go all the way. Not a big deal as you are not worried about "correctness" .......

Was just pointed towards this. It's a good read.

His mod seems to leave the original top arm mounting holes in place.

On my car, those bolts are right where the headers are. Not sure how different 66 and 67 are, but those notches would not provide any benefit to me.
