Good to hear you arrived safely - at least the rain will make you feel at home.

I will someday think of something clever to say.

Going back in the morning to pick up the trailer, hopefully the return trip will be slightly drier. Heard on the news that there was a double fatal at Woodburn today, must have been after we went through - poor buggers.

Yep - satin black engine bay, There could be an issue with the Nightmist paint code - so we are leaning towards Deep Impact Blue.

The full horror is coming to light now that Shaun is getting a closer look at the body.
We had some panel damage on the trip up - in the darkness the rope holding the boot lid up slid off and the lid edge creased the panel under the rear windscreen ( shows my lack of knowledge of panel names). Embarrassed

I knew that the transition panel needed work but on the time/labour scale it's better to replace it plus both rear quarters plus a rear section of the rail?
Wheel wells too

Best to get it done now - the missus want to know why we paid for a whole car but we are replacing all the panels?

She's got a point - looks like I need a few more brownie points fellas Mr. Green

Cheers

J

Sorry to hear that - at then end it will be sorted correctly so it might take longer and a few more $$ but it will be better for it at the end.

Yep the car has seen some snow in it's life. The rails are pretty good but it's got a good bit of rust, only really one way to sort it. At least it's a Mustang we can buy the parts. Astro plans to keep the car long term, so we need to make sure we get all the rust out now. It almost needs a firewall but I think the toe boards will just sort it.
The filler panel between the rear screen and boot lid is often called a "Cat walk"

In the end I don't want it look like a patch work quilt the transition panel on the diff tunnel is quite rusty and the shock mounts are punched clean out from air shocks, better to just replace it.

Once you start taking things off these old cars it really can be a Can of Worms

Mine looked pretty good other then some small rust in the rear quarters, the front left fender and the floors needed replacing. After a full strip and sandblast....... Well let's just say the only original panel of the ones you can see will be the front right fender, then there is the stuff behind that I have replaced as well. I am almost glad it has been this much work though as when it finally gets on the road I will be one happy chappy Mr. Green

Picked up some extra bits today from Mustang auto's, Cat walk, transition panel & rad support. Try to go get the new 1/4's tomorrow from QLD Mustang spares.

I already had a new rad supp panel - but the one without the lower supp beam, looks like the front end is going to be straightened up first so that the rear end can be picked apart and rebuilt.

On the phone tonight Shaun swings the conversation over to building the new engine internals and casually without missing a beat says " your crank looks pretty good - all I'll have to do is give it a polish"

The second he mentions blow off valve - I'm outta there Poke

Cheers

A little progress this week. Rad support replaced front inner apron on RH side, toe boards in, Plenum fully out now needs a couple of rust repairs on the kick panels prior to the new plenum going on. Toe boards tunnel and fire wall needs a grind up.
