I think a hot orange with a nice yellow Perl fleck though it would look excellent.

I will someday think of something clever to say.

Excellent choice boofhead, in fact I actually saw that colour scheme this morning. Someone had chucked up a pizza on the pavement. Laughing

But too hard basket.. just get it rego'd and drive the wheels off it.

I hear ya fellas, i know i dont have a great reputation for finishing things Laughing

I have been putting a bit of time into important things for rego.

Found a rusty leaking brakeline fitting so getting a new brake line bent up tomorrow.
Chasing up 1 or 2 new white wall tyres as there is an old crappy cracked one on the front and the spare that would of originally been on the front has near new tread but has been slashed. Date on tyres is 2008 so the rest are good.

The missing air shock have been replaced with 2 near new (at the time) EX Toyota Hilux ones i have had stashed away for about 10 years. I dont throw out anything. Neutral
I have removed the lowering blocks from the rear springs and replaced 1 U bolt as that is all i could find in our automotive shopping area, ordered another 3.

It is a busy shed ATM, still doing fiddly bits on the Mustang

Laughing This was a bit of a subject at the mustang nationals, the bonnet springs were in the boot. Twice i have fitted them and this is what happens when i shut it. They wont hold it up and it springs forward when i close it and gets stuck.
The springs go from the top to underneath the car, weird setup.

I have the workshop manual but it is no help, except how to fit the springs which i did. Going to join an american caddy forum to get info as the Aussie one doesnt seem to have any as old as mine.

You crack me up...

Black is like your celebrating a death - to sombre. A least you know a chucked up Pizza is a result from someone partying to hard ( aka having fun) not lined up for the end of all ends. Lets all remember this caddy - it server a number of owners these last 60 years - most are dead now. Time to get with the New Orleans solution of celebrate the new / rebirth and have some fun and party. Or keep it like a hearse Get me coat

RUST Yes there is some otherwise why buy it???
Albeit not a lot in this old girl as far as i can see, floor is solid, lower pillars and bottom of doors, roof good as well. Few bubbles in outer lower door skin, the old paint could be hiding shitloads but i think it would be more panel damage than anything.
The only other major rust is under the chrome strips in the rear pillars one more than the other.
This lower sill i saw in the original photos, and asked Ken for a close up, i don't know if it would be a rego problem or not as it has a full length chassis, but i want it gone anyway. The other side seems perfect and the drains were free of dirt and rust flakes. This side was blocked up at the rear drains.

It is really just an extra bit of metal welded over the sill to follow the body lines.

First i made up a template and cut it away revealing the outer sill panel.

Cleaned that up with the grinder and flap disc, found some thin metal.
This was a good oportunity to get rid of all the crap inside.
Cut out the offending area and blew out with compressed air, apart from the rear section the rest was just sand and a look inside shows just heavy surface rust. I soaked it with rust converter and will leave to dry.
Will cover tomorrow with red Interguard that Mike kindly left for me to use.
