Hi all. I'm up to looking for a new set of wheels
and tyres for my 66 coupe.
What are the largest that I can legally get under a standard mustang. 18" x 8" with a 4 or 4.5" offset? or a 7's the widest I can go.

Cheers Pete (envy 66)

I think 17x 7" is the safest you can go with 4.5 bs
I have 17x8 4.5 bs and 235 x 45 tyres which is the minimum size for 8" rims and i am battling with the front even with rolled arches. I am going to try 40 profile tyres and it should be right.
The rear also is too wide but my rear disc brake conversion takes up 5mm extra, i need 4.75 bs or more proberly front and back, the front will take it with the RRS suspension but not sure on upper ball joint clearance on wishbone suspension.

That chart shows that the 17x8 and 235 45 17 tyre without mods will fit 65-66 , same as another chart i used to buy my rims. But they clearly dont fit mine.

We recommend 215/45 on our 17x8's, on the front, and 235/45's on the rear.

do you mean 225's on the front... tyre mob said not legal 225 on a 8" rim another said maybe. Even the 235 sits almost flush with the rim on a 17x8. You can stagger 17x7 on the front 17x8 on the rear.

No, I mean 215/45-17 on the front. The minimum rims size for most 215/45 is 7", and the maximum is 8". Strangely, most 215/40 can go upto 8.5" wide rim!

Maybe the tyre mob was too busy to actually check their range of tyres, or didn't have access to much variety?
