For those of you who have the AOD in your 66 - what crossmember did you use?

I've bought one of the T5 conversion crossmembers like this puppy:

It looks as though I might need an extra 1/4 inch or so toward the back of the car from some stuff I have been reading. Maybe I can get away with just extending the holes.

What are others using?

I have one that I pulled out of Ron's (LUCY66) 69 at my place. While it is a 5 speed X member & believe they are the same. Reason I took the one out of that car was the one that was in there was a modified 5 speed X member for a 65/6 that had been changed to suit a 69 (& not well done). It now can be repaired to fit a 65/6 easily. Give me a call if I ever can get on a plane back to SYD.

I always jump the gun don't I?!

Not to worry.. maybe we can have a mutual measuring session to see how much different they are.

I think Kerry has a pretty sweet deal with the airlines, so sometimes he can get on and sometimes not.

I think I remember him telling me that, but sometimes I do make up stories Mr. Green

I fly on my pilot friend's passes. He is a 777 Captain but sits in the LH seat of a 747 (first officer, but very senior). So only get on when a seat is avail, however at the moment the Aussie dollar went nuts & all you guys are here buying the place.... Argh

But when it is avail it is usually a business class seat/bed. Thumbs Up

Carol (Mrsozbilt) flys on purchased tickets & still got bumped a day last week. So flying on the popular routes at times can be a crap shoot. Easy for me as I am never on a real schedual.

I will be doing this all again in November/December.

Does anyone know where the cable from the throttle to the gearbox goes on these boxes?

For the life of me, I can't see anywhere that a cable might hook up to. I can see the main linkage from the shifter to the box, but not for the throttle position cable. There is a switch and harness with 4 wires coming from it, which I assume is the inhibitor switch and reverse switch.

At the end of the selector lever shaft you should have a tv cable connection. Looks the same as a C4/C6 kickdown lever except it travels around 45 degrees.

Good article here on putting AOD into a Mustang.
www.mustangmonthly.com...index.html

Thanks Nuts.. I'll take a photo of the linkage tomorrow. From the pics in that article, it looks like both the shifter linkage and kickdown are part of the same linkage on the gearbox. I was expecting something completely separate.

Jeff,

Both linkages look like they are one unit but they are separate.

The shift linkage has a hollow shaft, the TV linkage shaft runs through it.

Please be very sure of the cables setup and adjustment before you drive mate.

I would strongly advise transporting the car to a trans shop for setting or ask if you can borrow their pressure gauge if you want to have a go yourself.

Yeah I saw in that article about needing 35PSI at idle.

Dad is in aircon, so I'm sure he would have adapters etc to fit up a pressure guage. I think mine is missing the TV cable linkage. But I can see the D shaped shaft that it should connect to, so it should just be a matter of finding one.

John Green at Probe in Brisbane may have a crossmember and other stuff, including a box. He had an AOD in his wifes 66 fastback but took it out and out C4 back in it. Think he has a couple of AODs there in fact.

Thanks Shaun.
I've already bought the T5 crossmember, so I'll see if that goes close to fitting. Looks like the regular mount will bolt up to the box, so here's hoping.
He might have the linkage I need.
