This has probably been covered but search isnt too much help.

What is the maximum practicle wheel size for a 66 Coupe.
17x7 on front and 17x8 on rear or 17x7 all round.

I'm running XF Brakes and R31 Skyline diff with 5 stud which is 3mm wider each side, but won't be running brake dust shields which are about this.

Tyres on 17x7 you would run 215/50 R17 yeah?
My donor car tyre size is 205/65 R15 so I would assume 215/50R17 would be about the same overall

Can go 17x8 with 215/45/17 on the front, and likely 235/45/17 on the rear.
But depends on the offset of the wheel.

I'm running 17x7 all round with a 4.25 back space and 215/50 tyres. If you go 17x8 you'll need a 4.75 back space

I posted this on another thread of what i have experienced trying different variety of rim sizes.

On the 66 backspace is very important as there is not much room for error and may need different BS front and back to clear components depending on brake/hub/suspension setup.
16"/17" x 7" 4.25-4.5 bs 225 x 45 or maybe 50 is the safest route but with 8" you will need at least 4.75 bs however if you go 16"and smaller with big backspace on the front you risk interference on the upper ball joint and tie rod end.
My Foose rims are 17x8.5 4.5 bs 235 x 45 and they were too wide front and back and will scrub the front fender, but i have RRS suspension on the front and the disc brake on rear which also pushes it out approx 5mm.
The rims in my avatar are 18x8.5 with 5" bs i think by a quick measurement and 225x40 tyres, i could go 235 comfortably, 4.75 should be right on std setups
