Happy,
glad you are ok! We can mend the metal.
I'm not sure on the thoughts of others, but I'd rather see an OEM door go onto your car. Barry reynolds could probably supply a decent unit. My experience tells me that an OEM door whilst need a lot of TLC will at least fit in the hole correctly. The repro's are getting better.....but still there are cheap ones out there.

Have a chat to your local parts supplier, they should be able to reccomend you some people to send your car too. Even one of my local suppliers that thinks I am too expensive sends me work that he would not trust anyone else with (structures).

keep ya chin up chum

Ed

Were really feeling for ya mate. BUT, atleast no-one was hurt.

So Im going to share my "DICKBAG" story with ya to make you feel better.

I had a XR GT that I had been restoring for 2 years when I was about 18/19 yrs old. I bought the car with NO gearbox or diff so I found a 9" but went with a fully rebuilt C4 auto as it was FREE and I wanted to get it on the road

The whole car was metal finished and I remember doing EVER SINGLE PANEL

The car was finished of in Showroom condition with mirror finish paint. It was like a sheet of metalic gold glass had fallin onto the car and taken the shape of a XR GT Falcon.

I had just saved up enough to put a nicer sounding twin system on the car and finished fitting it on a late Friday afternoon.

I was so Impressed with the note and awesome sound, I decided to venture down to the drivethrough and celebrate with a slab of coronas.

I pull up and only the browse in lane was free so I pulled up and thought to myself, Im going to leave this bitch running so I can listen to it while I purchase my beer of choice.

As Im about to pay for the consumables, I hear my cars revs slightly picking up and the car getting quieter.....like some F#ckers in it going for a flex.

I look at the Beer man and say "some f#ckers stealing my car"

I drop everything and race outside about to smack the piss out of the joyrider only to watch the bastard and the car reversing straight back towards a big arse pine tree and a new BMW.

The Beemer driver reversed out of the way luckily

As I race towards the car, I notice ...YEP, thats right, No one is in the car.

The Tbar shifter had wobbled its way into "R" and went for its own drive (something very common with that shifter and C4 I found out)

It T boned the centre of the boot lid and totaly F#cked up the entire back end. As it hit the tree, about 100 tonnes of pine needles and tree lint fell on top of the car.

I stood there with my jaw on the ground dumbfounded

Luckily there was no one betwwen the car and the tree and nobody got hurt

Those Coronas went down well that night, staring at the car and saying what my dad had taught me.....

"if man made it, man can fix it"

Good luck with the repair mate

Matt & Sheri

Or my stuff up. Luckily it was only a customers Camira & he had a spare at home for parts. His bonnet would not shut properly (he knew it) but seemed OK on the safety latch. Test driving after repairs - bonnet came up , shattered windscreen , pulled bonnet hinges out of firewall , caved in the roof a little - just another day in paradise!

(PRAYER) Oh thank you Wild Turkey American Honey & Cola in those small thin bottles, for giving me the strength to act like a half wit, and say stupid things at inappropriate times, semi-anonymously, on a public forum.
Amen.

I did the exact same thing on a customers ZH Fairlane as an apprentice, didnt shut the bonnet properly and decided to gun it. I snuck it back into the workshop and I think thats when i first started my crash course in panel beating. Neutral

Hi Happy,
Really sorry to hear of your misfortune.
Hughie at 60's Rust has done some work on my car and I can recommend his work.
My sons have a 68 coupe in there being converted to a fastback so if you decide to get the work done there , we can keep an eye on it for you.

Cheers,
Bob

Hey thatÒ€ℒs great BLU302, (Bob)

I spoke to Hugh this morning, he seems very approachable over the phone and l was planning on taking the car over this afternoon. That is, until the storms arrived - so it looks like it will be in the morning.

So far, Lumley (LSV) have been very understanding and have told me l can choose where l get it repaired.. Hugh at 60's Rust said he has had a few issues with them in the past, with them not accepting his prices, but he will try and sort it out and see how we go.

I'll let you know the outcome in a few days or see you at the MOCA meeting if you are attending this week , minus my car that is!!.

Thanks again Bob.
